Summary 

The Communications engineer shall provide technical leadership in design, documentation, implementation, and test of Comms simulation models and associated simulator hardware.  Must have proven advanced technical capabilities in the aspects of Comms systems in flight simulation and detailed knowledge of software techniques used in the simulation industry. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designing, implementing, testing, documenting and supporting communications systems software.   

  • Responsible for generating all the preliminary and detailed design documents as well as any user’s guides or acceptance test procedures. 

  • Responsible for enhancements or modifications to existing designs, requiring the application of current industry design concepts and utilization of technical writing skills.   

  • Expected to perform all phases of software implementation (code, off-line test, and documentation).     

  • Works under minimal supervision 

  • Responsible for assisting and training lower-level Comms engineers.   

  • Expected to give presentations at customer and internal design reviews.   

  • Must be able to perform effectively as part of the project "team". 

  • Responsible for all phases of customer and on-site acceptance of Comms systems. 

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • BS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Mathematics 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the simulation or software development industry 

  • Computer programming languages: C, C++ or ADA 

  • Technical areas of expertise should include knowledge of aircraft operation in both the real world and the simulator environments.   

  • Knowledge of software techniques and computer languages used in the simulation industryHardware/software integration skills.   

  • Related skill areas should include technical writing and presentation skills.   

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.  All communications must be in English. 

  • Analytical and mathematical modeling ability.   

  • Technical areas of expertise must include current software development methodologies and tools. 

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. 

  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.  

Preferred Skills 

  • Previous experience with aircraft communication systems (ARC-210 etc) 

  • SAFe Agile Experience a plus 

  • Knowledgeable with MIL-STD 1553 interfaces 

 

Security Responsibilities 

Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures.  Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval.  All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.  

  •  Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance. 

 

Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.  

 

Work Environment 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  

 

Physical Demands 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  

  • May be required to sit down for long lengths of time. 

  • May be required to climb stairs. 

  • Must be able to travel CONUS and to international sites  

  • Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator
