Job Description

This role involves being responsible for the bolt-on-structures to the ladder frame for all new products, from initial design to manufacturing launch of all-electric pick-up and rugged SUVs. Key responsibilities include creating CAD data, optimizing designs for cost, functionality, weight, and manufacturability, defining design verification plans, collaborating with suppliers, and ensuring designs meet safety standards and U.S. government regulations. The role requires working with a diverse team, fostering a collaborative environment, and proactively proposing system improvements based on consumer experience. The position is based in Novi, Michigan, and requires 3-4 days of in-office attendance.
Must have:
  • 4+ years of experience in body mechanical areas
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Expert in CATIA V5, including 3D modeling and 2D drawings
  • Strong technical skills for problem-solving
  • Ability to lead simultaneous engineering teams
  • Good knowledge of MS Office products
Good to have:
  • Familiarity with computer-aided engineering (CAE)

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Responsible for the bolt-on-structures to the ladder frame for all new products. You will cover from clean sheet of paper through virtual development, testing/sign-off and manufacturing launch for all Scout all-electric pick-up and rugged SUVs.
  • Creating the CAD-Data of the parts (e. g. towing hooks, bolted on structural reinforcements, body-mounts, etc.)
  • Optimize the CAD-Data with respect to cost, functionality, weight, and manufacturability.
  • Define design verification plans and align with the test engineers.
  • Working together with suppliers and engineering service providers.
  • Be a part of a diverse team while fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Develop CAD data for virtual and physical verification testing, including field testing.
  • Ensure designs conform to safety standards and U.S. government regulations.
  • Proactively stay attuned to consumer experience and propose system improvements accordingly.
  • Manage resources efficiently including infrastructure, financial, supplier partners and people.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan.
  • The responsibilities of this role require 3-4 days attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Education/Certifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, engineering management or a relevant field
  • Years of Experience required in type of role: 4+ years of experience in body mechanical areas and relevant automotive assignments.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Expert in CATIA V5. Including the ability to make 3D parametric models and 2D drawings
  • Strong technical skills and expertise to problem-solving
  • Ability to lead simultaneous engineering teams
  • Good knowledge of MS Office products
  • Familiarity with computer-aided engineering (CAE) or direct experience in this field.
  • The ability to build strong working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $120,000.00 - $135,000.00
