Epic Games seeks a highly talented Environment Artist to create stunning architecture and Points of Interest (POIs) for Fortnite. Responsibilities include utilizing Unreal Engine 5, bringing game designs and concept art to life, collaborating with various teams (Level Design, Tech Art, FX), and ensuring high-quality delivery of work. The artist will build and texture sets, create modular architecture kits using DCC tools (3DS Max, Maya, Blender, ZBrush), and master baking and texturing techniques (Marmoset, Substance Painter, Designer). A strong understanding of performance constraints and experience across multiple platforms is crucial.
Must have:
  • 3+ years professional experience in game industry building architecture and POIs
  • Proficiency in UE5, DCC tools (3DS Max, Maya, Blender, ZBrush), and Substance Suite
  • Excellent understanding of high-to-low poly baking and texturing processes
  • Strong artistic ability, interpreting concept art, and building organic/hard surface assets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

What You'll Do

Epic Games is searching for highly talented and creative Environment Artist to join our team in building some of the best looking architecture and POIs in Fortnite. Applicants will need to demonstrate a strong artistic ability, bringing with them a strong understanding of form, function, detail, the skill to interpret concept art, and the technical skills to bring their work to life in Unreal Engine 5. Artists are required to be versatile with the ability to build both organic and hard surface assets. In this role, you will

  • Utilize UE5, bring game designs and concept art to life by creating new points of interest (POIs) for our Battle Royale Island; collaborating with a variety of stakeholders including Level Design, Tech Art, and FX
  • As an Environment Artist, you will work closely with Leads, Production, and the POI owner to ensure the high-quality delivery of work through tasking and prioritizing deliverables, driving creative conversation with level design, and maintaining clear and open lines of communication
  • Build and texture architectural and thematic sets that Level Design will use to dress the environments, acting as a point of contact throughout the production cycle
  • Be an expert in modular architecture kit creation with DCC tools, such as 3DS Max, Maya, Blender, and ZBrush
  • Use your strong knowledge of baking and texturing with tools such as Marmoset, Substance Painter and Designer, to develop architecture in a high-to-low poly baking process. This will involve utilizing tileable textures, trim sheets, unique unwraps, and displacement map creation
  • Bring your knowledge and understanding of performance constraints and your experience with developing across multiple platforms

What we're looking for

  • Required: An online portfolio of previous professional and personal work (please provide any needed passwords on your resume)
  • Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited university in the U.S., or its foreign equivalent in Game Art, Digital Arts, Interactive Media, or other related degree
  • At minimum, 3 years of professional experience in the video game industry building architecture and working on POIs for shipped titles
  • At minimum, 1 shipped title that exhibits AAA game-quality art
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

This role is open to multiple locations across the US (including CA, NYC, & WA).

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).
