The National Geographic Media Archives Intern will assist the Image Collection and Video Archives team in managing millions of visual assets. Responsibilities include learning content ingest processes, assisting with the handling and transportation of physical photography assets, improving digital asset curation, and enhancing the accessibility of legacy documents. The intern will work alongside archivists on ongoing projects, gaining experience in digital asset management and archival best practices. This internship offers practical experience in managing large-scale visual archives, encompassing both digital and physical media.

About the Role & Program

Join us for the opportunity to intern with National Geographic Image Collection and Video Archives team!  Our team manages the millions of visual assets generated since 1888.  Our role is to preserve and curate material generated by our photographers and filmmakers and make it available for current and future projects.  This includes the accession of digital material and adding descriptive data to make it easier to discover. We provide stock footage research for many departments within The Walt Disney Company and strategize on usage based on the content available. 

The approximate dates of this internship are May/June 2025 through August/September 2025. If selected for this role, you will report directly to the Director of Archives Services. A cover letter indicating your interest in the National Geographic Media Archives Intern, Summer 2025 position is required.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Learn how to plan and prepare content for ingest into our assessment management systems

  • Work alongside an archivist to expedite ongoing projects of packing and transporting physical photography assets

  • Gain an understanding of our best practices for curating digital assets

  • Help improve accessibility of legacy documents by scanning documentation such as Shotsheets and footage declarations

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Analytical and organized

  • Ability to handle and prioritize simultaneous projects and meet deadlines

  • Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment

  • Adept at learning new software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Digital Asset Management

  • Experience handling older physical mediums such as film negatives and slides

Education

  • Junior or Senior year preferred

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science or related field

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements: 

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.

  • Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Possess unrestricted work authorization

Additional Information

  • Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship

  • The approximate dates of this internship are May/June 2025 through August/September 2025

  • Fully available from Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm ET for the duration of the internship, 40 hours each week

  • Able to provide own housing for the duration internship program in the Washington D.C. area

  • Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work
