Microsoft's Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) organization seeks an experienced attorney for its HR Legal team as Principal Corporate Counsel. Responsibilities include proactively driving strategy and execution as lead counsel for agency investigations and pre-litigation disputes (EEOC, DOL/OFCCP, etc.), directing outside counsel, providing legal advice on employment disputes, building relationships, and developing cost-effective legal service solutions. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of experience practicing employment and/or labor law in the U.S., experience litigating employment claims, handling agency charges, and advising corporate clients. A Juris Doctor degree or equivalent and an active law license are required.

Overview

Microsoft’s Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) organization seeks an experienced attorney to join the HR Legal team as Principal Corporate Counsel. 

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 4+ years experience as a practicing attorney
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
  • Experience practicing employment and/or labor law in the U.S.

Additional or preferred qualifications 

 

  • Experience litigating employment claims in court, agency hearings, and/or arbitrations in the U.S.; 
  • Experience handling agency charges and investigations and pre-litigation disputes in the U.S.; 
  • Experience advising corporate clients regarding employment and/or labor law topics in the U.S.;
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, manage competing priorities, and exercise good judgment in making swift decisions with imperfect information;
  • Experience contributing to the development of programs to deliver legal services at scale; and
  • Unyielding commitment to the highest professional ethics. 

 

Legal Counsel IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $227,500 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $243,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively driving strategy and execution as lead counsel responsible for responding to and resolving agency investigations and pre-litigation disputes, such as EEOC and similar state agency charges, DOL/OFCCP compliance reviews, labor arbitrations, and private claims; 
  • Engaging and directing outside counsel; 
  • Providing innovative, practical legal advice regarding employment-related disputes to clients at all levels; 
  • Building and maintaining professional, trusted, productive relationships throughout the company and with external parties; and
  • Partnering in the development and expansion of programmatic, cost-effective solutions for delivering legal services at scale.
