Job Description

The Procedural Artist (PCG) will be responsible for pushing the boundaries of large-scale world generation, biome creation, and procedural assets for the game Solid River, a AAA survival city-building RPG. They will design and implement procedural generation pipelines for landscapes, biomes, settlements, and structures, and develop custom tools in Houdini or Unreal Engine to automate asset creation and terrain generation. They will also collaborate with artists, engineers, and designers to refine procedural content workflows, optimize performance, and ensure seamless integration between handcrafted and procedurally generated content. Mentorship of junior team members will also be expected.
Must have:
  • 3+ years of Technical Artist experience, with focus on procedural content generation.
  • Deep expertise in Unreal Engine and procedural workflows.
  • Strong understanding of world-building techniques and landscape generation.
  • Experience developing tools and pipelines for terrain and asset scattering.
  • Solid programming/scripting skills in C++, or HLSL.
  • Fluent in English.
Good to have:
  • Experience with AI-driven procedural content generation.
  • Knowledge of Substance Designer or SpeedTree.
  • Understanding of multiplayer and networking for procedural worlds.
  • Background in open-world game development or sandbox survival games.
  • Experience with Voxel Plugin

Your Role

We’re looking for a Procedural Artist (PCG) to help push the boundaries of large-scale world generation, biome creation, and procedural assets. If you thrive at the intersection of art and technology and have a passion for crafting vast, immersive environments, we’d love to hear from you!
As a Senior Technical Artist – PCG, you will drive the development of procedural tools and workflows to create rich, dynamic worlds for our survival city-building RPG. You will collaborate closely with artists, engineers, and designers to ensure our world-generation pipelines are both artist-friendly and technically robust.


Responsibilities

  • Design and implement procedural generation pipelines for landscapes, biomes, settlements, and structures.
  • Develop custom Houdini, Unreal Engine, or in-house tools to automate asset creation and terrain generation.
  • Work closely with environment artists and level designers to refine procedural content workflows and maintain artistic quality.
  • Optimize performance and memory usage for large-scale procedural worlds.
  • Ensure seamless integration between handcrafted and procedurally generated content.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to define technical requirements and develop scalable solutions.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members in procedural content creation.


Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Technical Artist in game development, with a focus on procedural content generation.
  • Deep expertise in Unreal Engine and procedural workflows.
  • Strong understanding of world-building techniques, landscape generation, and instancing methods.
  • Experience developing tools and pipelines for terrain, foliage, settlements, and asset scattering.
  • Solid programming/scripting skills in C++, or HLSL.
  • Familiarity with shader development and performance optimization for large environments.
  • Strong artistic sense and ability to balance procedural generation with creative direction.
  • Ability to debug and optimize complex pipelines.
  • Fluent in English; German is a plus.
  • Onsite position.

  • Experience with AI-driven procedural content generation.
  • Knowledge of Substance Designer, SpeedTree, or other procedural tools.
