This role is offered on a full in-studio basis or a hybrid basis (typically 3 days per week in the studio). We can provide a comprehensive relocation support package as part of any offer, should you need to relocate.
WHAT’S THE ROLE?
We are looking for a Senior Environment Artist with a passion for crafting immersive worlds, to lead the visual development of natural and constructed environments in our games. This role is ideal for a highly skilled artist who combines technical proficiency with a strong artistic vision and thrives in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING- Drive the creation of large-scale terrains, from initial shape language to detailed sculpting and material distribution.
- Design and implement visually compelling gameplay-conscious scenes in collaboration with designers.
- Define and curate biome aesthetics, including vegetation and rock sets.
- Identify and solve visual, technical and workflow related challenges with autonomy.
- Provide clear direction and feedback to junior artists and external partners.
- Collaborate with art direction, Technical Art and Design to maintain consistency and optimise pipeline processes.
- Balance visual quality and performance through optimisation workflows.
- Set benchmarks for composition, scale readability and atmosphere across world spaces.
- Contribute to the development of documentation, style guides and tooling feedback.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING- Demonstrable experience in environment art for games, with an extensive portfolio which demonstrates a high level of environment art understanding across a range of different areas.
- Mastery in terrain creation tools (e.g. World Machine, Gaea, Unreal Engine Landscape Tools, Houdini).
- Strong understanding of level composition, lighting fundamentals, and spatial storytelling.
- Excellent skills in delegation, mentorship, and providing actionable feedback.
- Proactive communicator, able to work across departments and resolve blockers independently.
BONUS IF YOU HAVE- Experience with foliage workflows (SpeedTree, procedural scattering, etc)
- Background in technical art, shader development or tool prototyping.
- Passion for worldbuilding and ecosystem authenticity.
