Job Description

The Lead Environment Artist will be responsible for coordinating with other leads, defining the visual direction with the Art Director, and working with the Tech Art department to define technical art budgets, workflows, and pipelines. They will create new assets, oversee technical setups, update existing assets, fix graphical bugs, mentor other artists, and create presentations. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work autonomously.
Must Have:
  • 5+ years relevant work experience.
  • Experience leading/coordinating other artists.
  • Proficient with 3dsmax/Maya, Substance Designer, Zbrush, and Unreal Engine.
  • Excellent high/low poly modeling skills.
  • Understanding of art concepts (modeling, texturing, materials, modularity, level design).
  • Experience working with technical art budgets.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously.

Our client is growing their team to work on their first title and are looking for an experienced Lead Environment Artist to join them. Their next game is an ambitious tactical RPG with a medieval theme.
 
Skills and Knowledge:
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience and interest in coordinating/leading other artists
  • Receptive to feedback from the Art Director and project Art Leads
  • Proficient with 3dsmax or Maya, Substance Designer, Zbrush, and Unreal Engine
  • Excellent High or Low poly modeling skills with an understanding of texture and material creation in a PBR pipeline
  • Understanding of art concepts: modeling, texturing, materials, modularity, level design & flow
  • Experience working with technical art budgets
  • A portfolio that demonstrates your seniority and skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and with little supervision
 

Role responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with other leads to plan, resolve dependencies and blockers
  • Work with the Art Director to define the visual direction
  • Work with the Tech Art department to define technical art budgets, workflows, and pipelines
  • Create new assets while following technical and artistic direction to ensure the end product is of high quality and shippable
  • Oversee and review the technical setup of materials, pipelines, and workflows
  • Update existing assets for new platforms and technology
  • Fix graphical bugs and also help with optimization of assets
  • Mentor other artists and give feedback
  • Create and hold presentations for the team or external collaborators as needed
