Job Description

Lead a team building secure connectivity solutions for Microsoft's diverse customer base. Responsibilities include designing features for the Windows networking stack, focusing on network security; conducting code and design reviews; managing and mentoring team members; troubleshooting issues using tools such as logging and packet capture; collaborating globally; and staying current with networking standards. The team works on core networking areas (DNS, DHCP, Firewall, HTTP, TCP/IP, QUIC, VPN) and contributes to IETF standards. This role requires expertise in networking protocols, architecture, and software development (C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python).
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in CS or related field
  • 4+ years technical engineering experience
  • 3+ years shipping high-quality software
  • 3+ years experience with networking protocols
  • Proficient in C#, Java, or C++
  • Team leadership and mentorship skills
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in CS
  • 2+ years people management
  • Experience with scripting languages
  • Understanding of systems software
  • Microsoft Cloud background

As part of our extended team, you will work on the best of networking technology, you will contribute to architecture, design and build the fundamental pieces that get us to a zero-trust networking vision. As a technical leader, you will be leading the team that enhances the core networking areas spanning DNS, DHCP, Firewall, HTTP, TCP/IP, QUIC, and VPN. You will be working on cutting-edge technology that includes contributions to standards bodies such as the IETF.  

 

As a Senior Software Engineering Manager, you will nurture the team with excellent culture providing them the guidance and mentoring to be their productive best. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of industry experience shipping high quality software.
  • 3 + years experience with networking protocols and architecture. 

Other Qualifications: 

 

Microsoft Cloud Background Check

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    o OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years people management experience.

  • Proficient communication and collaboration skills.  
  • Proficient debugging, coding, testing, and problem-solving skills  
  • Proficient understanding of systems software. 
  • Proficient design and implementation skills using C#, Java, or C++. 
  • Experience with scripting languages. 

 

Software Engineering M4 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $108,100 - CAD $199,700 per year.

Responsibilities

What you will do in this role: 

  • Design features in the Windows networking stack that accrue to network security. 
  • Conduct timely review of design and code. 
  • Hold regular 1:1s, team meetings  
  • Conduct analysis and do focused investigations based on customer cases related to the core networking areas using a variety of mechanisms such as logging, packet capture, telemetry data. 
  • Be responsible for timely and high quality delivery of fixes for defects or for features in the networking stacks. 
  • Collaboratively work across teams globally for design and development activities. 
  • Learn and keep up with networking standards-based protocols with the goal of building out great functionality to help customers.
