As a Senior Technical Designer at Crystal Dynamics, you will lead the technical design process from conception to implementation, ensuring innovative and engaging gameplay. You will bridge the design and engineering teams, translating design requirements into technical solutions, and develop prototypes for new gameplay ideas. Responsibilities include guiding the design team on technical issues, overseeing system integration and optimization, collaborating with QA, mentoring junior designers, and ensuring adherence to project timelines and technical specifications. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in game design, advanced proficiency in game engines (ideally Unreal Engine), and strong communication skills.
Must have:
  • Proven experience as Senior Technical Designer in AAA games
  • Expert knowledge of game design principles
  • Advanced proficiency in game engines & visual scripting
  • Excellent communication & collaboration skills
  • Deep understanding of animation systems
Good to have:
  • Extensive Unreal Engine, Blueprint, and Unreal GAS experience
  • Action-Adventure game experience (PC/Console)
  • Contributed to shipped AAA title as a Designer

As a (Project Full-Time) Senior Technical Designer, you play a pivotal role in creating gameplay mechanics that will captivate our worldwide player base. Your efforts will sculpt and fine-tune dynamic interactions that uphold our vision and immerse gamers in experiences like no other. 

As a Senior Technical Designer, you will: 

  • Lead the technical design process, from conception through to implementation, ensuring that gameplay is innovative, engaging, and seamless. 
  • Serve as a bridge between the design team and engineering departments, translating game design requirements into technical solutions. 
  • Spearhead the development of prototypes for new gameplay ideas, collaborating with gameplay programmers and artists to test feasibility and refine concepts. 
  • Guide and support the design team on technical issues, promoting best practices and encouraging a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. 
  • Oversee the integration and optimization of game systems, working closely with the QA team to identify and troubleshoot technical issues. 
  • Foster a collaborative environment by providing mentorship to junior technical designers and encouraging knowledge sharing within the team. 
  • Ensure that game mechanics and systems adhere to project timelines and technical specifications, maintaining a high standard of quality and performance. 

To be considered for this role, we require: 

  • Proven experience as a Senior Technical Designer or in a comparable role within the gaming industry, ideally working on high-fidelity games. 
  • Expert knowledge of game design principles and a proven track record of implementing these in high-fidelity games. 
  • Advanced proficiency in commercial or proprietary game engines, with a strong command of visual scripting tools and editors. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, with excellent communication skills and the capacity to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 
  • A deep understanding of animation systems and ability to collaborate with animation and engineering teams. 

Preference will be given to candidates who have: 

  • Extensive knowledge working in Unreal Engine, Blueprint, and Unreal GAS (Gameplay Ability System). 
  • Experience working on Action-Adventure games for PC/Console. 

It'll be a bonus if you also have: 

  • Contributed to shipped AAA title as a Designer. 

The pay range for this role includes the annual base salary, not including bonus and the generous benefits package that Crystal Dynamics provides all full-time employees. Individual compensation is determined by work location within our approved states or regions, as well as additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education.
