Job Description

As a Senior Technical Designer, you will be a technical design expert, working closely with gameplay programmers and designers. You will collaborate with programmers to identify requirements for tools and systems and break down functional requirements. You will also drive best practices for design implementation and mentor other designers while safeguarding feature requirements. The role involves implementing design, establishing best practices, and working with design to implement, with experience in visual scripting and scripting languages.
Must have:
  • Experience as a Technical Designer in games
  • Expertise in establishing best practices and implementation
  • Experience with scripting languages (C++, C#, Lua, Python)
  • Strong communication skills and documentation
Good to have:
  • Work experience with Lua
  • Experience with real-time strategy games
  • The ability to comprehend C++ code
  • Previous experience shipping AAA games

We are looking for a Senior Technical Designer to join our team to work closely with Gameplay Designers and Programmers across the studio.

 

As a Senior Technical Designer, you will…

  • Be a technical design expert; a strong implementor who can work with gameplay programmers and designers to translate design intention into realized gameplay
  • Collaborate with programmers to identify the requirements and workflows for tools and systems
  • Understand how to break down functional requirements of a feature
  • Drive best practices for design implementation and mentor other Designers
  • Safeguard feature requirements and development from implementation risk 

You’re a good fit if you have…  

  • Experience as a Technical Designer in games in a role that worked closely with other disciplines such as Designers, Artists, Programmers, and Producers
  • Expertise in establishing best practices and working with design to implement
  • Experience establishing or improving tools/systems used by other team members
  • Worked with visual scripting, scripting languages, decision trees, and state machines
  • Scripting experience and knowledge (e.g., C++, C#, Lua, Python)
  • Strong communication skills that include documentation and mentoring others
  • A desire to learn, share, and grow with us 

It’s a bonus if you have… 

  • Work experience with Lua
  • Experience with real-time strategy games
  • The ability to comprehend C++ code
  • Previous experience shipping AAA games

Compensation

The salary range for this position in British Columbia is between $102,000 and $131,750 CAD a year based on a 40-hour work week. The salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, knowledge, skills and competencies, and business or organizational needs.
