The Software Engineering Manager II at Google's LearnX team leads engineering teams building AI-driven capabilities and features for learning products. Responsibilities include leading the development of AI features, managing data training systems, overseeing infrastructure for AI model training, defining technical direction and strategy, and collaborating with stakeholders to drive project delivery. The role requires managing engineers across multiple teams and locations, overseeing large-scale projects, and contributing to product strategy. This position demands strong technical expertise and leadership skills to build and manage AI capabilities for Search and Lens, as well as broader learning products.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience in machine learning, building /training AI models, back-end data infrastructure or data engineering.
  • Experience with ideation and innovation at scale.
  • Experience running software engineering teams and delivering multi-quarter projects.
  • Ability to collaborate with other people, teams and functions globally, communicate cross-functionally.
  • Passion for coaching and supporting engineers and engineering managers.
