As a Staff Software Engineer in the Core Data Query team at Google, you'll lead a group of engineers, collaborate across teams, and mentor others to deliver high-quality products. You will design and implement solutions to enhance the F1 Query system, scaling systems sustainably. Responsibilities include managing project priorities, designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing software solutions. You'll identify opportunities for improvement, collaborate with users, and contribute to the technical foundation of Google's flagship products. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and experience with data structures, algorithms, and large-scale system design.
Must have:
  • 8+ years software development experience
  • Data structures/algorithms expertise
  • 5+ years design, architecture, testing, and launching software
  • Lead engineering teams and collaborate across teams
  • Design and implement solutions to enhance F1 Query System
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in CS or related field
  • 3+ years technical leadership
  • 3+ years cross-functional project experience

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a group of engineers and collaborate across multiple teams and timezones.
  • Manage Individual contributions and mentor engineers to deliver with high-engineering and product excellence.
  • Identify opportunities in collaboration with our users. Design and lead the implementation of solutions to enhance the F1 Query system.
  • Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like caching, better task scheduling and better algorithms.
