Purpose of the role
New business development and management/growth of existing accounts including corporate and non-corporate organisations in the Middle East and North Africa region. Consultative solution selling to help scientific and research organisations in the region succeed. Representing the full Content Services and Research Solutions portfolio, including custom publishing, content marketing, advertising, sponsorship, events, training services, editing, and intelligence services.
Key tasks
• Meet revenue goals through selling creative solutions from entire product portfolio to senior decision makers at corporate and non-corporate organisations in Middle East and North Africa
• Build relationships with senior-level officials at corporate, academic, governmental and other non-profit organisations; deepen understanding of their pain points and needs; design and present custom solutions based on available products and capabilities
• Working with directors, develop and implement strategic territory development plan that maximizes both near-term and long-term revenues
• Develop effective relationships with key stakeholders in editorial, publishing, marketing, production and technology departments to ensure that solutions are executed on time, on budget and to the customer’s full satisfaction
• Liaise closely with members of other SN commercial sales teams to ensure that customer relationships are fully leveraged for all revenue types
• Attend industry events to build new customer relationships and cultivate existing ones; make on-site visits to prospective and in-person customers
• Maintain accurate records of customer data, customer interactions and key opportunities
• Regular sales performance reporting, forecasting and commentary for territory
• Commit to continued self-learning, making use of all available tools
Key relationships
• Senior research, management, and marketing executives across universities, research institutes, government organisations and other non-profits within the science sector
• Editorial, publishing and product teams/stakeholders within Springer Nature globally
• Institutional Solutions colleagues and other Springer Nature commercial sales and marketing teams
Qualifications
• Education to degree level or equivalent. Science degree beneficial
• Proficiency in English and ideally Arabic. Additional languages beneficial
Skills/knowledge
• Deep familiarity with the global and regional academic and research marketplace
• Strong personal presence: ability to quickly establish rapport and productive relationships with senior-level institutional executives
• In-depth understanding of the scientific publishing process
• Understanding of structures and decision-making process within academic institutions
• Knowledge of CRM systems best practice
• Proficient public speaking and presentation skills
• Ability to collaborate within a complex team environment to execute commercial projects
• Excellent verbal and written communication and relationship building skills
• Proven ability to achieve sales quotas
• Willingness to travel within territory for client meetings and events
Experience
• Significant commercial experience, preferably within B2B environment
• Proven track record of key account management and business development
• Sales experience in academic, non-profit, government sectors, including senior decision makers
• Experience in creative, consultative solutions selling, managing a wide range of stakeholders
• Experience in STM market/sector beneficial
• Experience of selling a wide portfolio of digital, print and offline products
• Experience in CRM systems
