The Interactives Designer, ATI (Advanced Technology Interactives) is a creative, innovative, and organized thinker able to create multiple technical and creative approaches and solutions to meet interactive design criteria, such as guest experience, game design, hourly capacity (THRC), show timing and narrative flow, physical interactive elements, etc., while adhering to local building codes and operational needs. The Interactive Designer provides interactive design for overall project experience transformation initiatives, guidance and oversight of projects aimed at modernizing the Universal Parks and Resorts attractions and guest experiences. As directed by the Show Producer, Creative Director and/or Interactives Director, the Interactives Designer will assist in the in the development of details to creatively integrate advanced technology project scope in creative development, game and experience design, planning and scoping, integrated and documented in game design documents, models, drawing packages, and execution in the field. This position will partner with a project creative team on gaming experience, technology and interactives within the project’s “story” and ensure creative intent and overall experience is conveyed to successfully create the desired guest experience.
Must have theatre, scenic design, game design and/or interactive design within physical spaces experience and training. Must be a creative thinker and problem solver with strong technical ability with various design techniques/tools such as show set / scenic design, modeling, game design, and/or others. Must have strong communication and collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Will work in all phases of projects as directed, from blue sky though to project closeout, design and field installation. Will be assigned to a wide range of tasks and project sizes and types. Influences decisions of significant nature requiring high degree of tact. Provides an interactive experience as one that allows a guest, by their actions, to change the show.
High school degree or GED is required. Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Game Design, Digital Media, Theater, Creative Writing or related discipline is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
5-7 years theme park, theatrical design, interactive design, production and field installation experience. Ability to communicate complex artistic ideas through a combination of verbal, written and visual and materials required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. This role must have in depth knowledge of interactive design, user interface/experience design, graphic design, art, visual storytelling, motion & timing, and game design within physical environments. Must have successfully designed, developed and installed interactive attraction projects.
