Job Description

The Pictorial Artist at Disneyland Resort is responsible for maintaining the high visual quality of animated figures, props, and environments across the resort. This involves daily on-site work at various locations, including attractions, restaurants, and merchandise areas, requiring travel between sites. Duties include painting murals, props, and figures; performing touch-ups and overhauls of existing assets; and occasionally contributing to new projects. The role demands proficiency in various painting techniques, materials, and tools, along with adherence to Disney's artistic standards. The work often requires physical dexterity, including climbing ladders, using scaffolding, and working in various positions. Accurate material usage logging is also necessary.
Must have:
  • Proficient in airbrushing and spray-gun techniques
  • Excellent painting skills (realistic and cartoon)
  • Knowledge of various paints and substrates
  • Strong attention to detail and precision
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Availability for early mornings, weekends, and holidays
Good to have:
  • Experience with three-dimensional object painting
  • Experience in aging, graining, and faux finishing
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations (VOCs)

Job Summary:

Pictorial Artists are responsible for maintaining the show quality of animated figures and props and requires "Disney Standard" artistic talent and expertise to support pictorial needs throughout Disneyland® Resort.

Work duties include daily field-work at the attractions, to sustain the show-quality levels of existing assets, as well as in-shop work for assets being overhauled and occasional work on new assets while following art direction.

Responsibilities:

  • Pictorial maintenance of attractions, restaurants, and merchandise locations (interior and exterior) throughout Disneyland® and Disney's California Adventure (or any other locations that may be requested – Disneyland Resort Hotels, etc.). Will travel to sites via cart or bicycle while transporting craft tools and supplies. May climb ladders and stairs, use scaffolding and maneuver around attractions.
  • Painting of murals, props, sets, or figures, as needed or requested, for window displays, new projects, attractions, etc. Requires periods of standing, kneeling or sitting while painting.
  • Logging of volume of the materials used (in keeping with environmental regulations pertaining to VOCs)

Basic Qualifications:

Schedule Availability - Availability to work early-morning shifts, Monday-Friday (including any holidays), with occasional shifts on Saturday and Sunday with work occurring during 2nd or 3rd shift, as needed.

Technical Skills, Abilities and Experience
  • Provide portfolio for review (during recruiting process)
  • Airbrushing and spray-gun skills
  • Good working knowledge of various substrates, materials, and paints including silicone, automotive-paint systems and black light paints
  • Ability to:
    • Draw well
    • Use basic tools required of a Pictorial Artist
    • Do brush blending
    • Transform flat surfaces to a dimensional appearance with shading and highlighting
  • Good working knowledge of water-based paints (primarily used at Disneyland® Resort)
  • Experience color mixing and matching
  • Fine-line and detail brush skills
  • Capable of free-hand painting of pictorials - realistic or cartoon
  • Graphics and lettering skills
  • Strong knowledge of the entire paint process (stripping, prep, priming and finishing)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience painting three-dimensional objects/characters strongly preferred
  • Experience in aging, graining, and faux finishing is helpful

Additional Information:

SCHEDULE AVAILABILITY
Our Theme Parks and Resort Hotels operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; Shifts may start as early as 6:00 AM, while some may end as late as 5:00 AM. Casual Regular Cast Members must be available to work Friday evenings and have Saturday or Sunday availability and available to work all holidays and all peak seasons

This roles is Full Time and requires full availability, including working evenings, weekends and holidays when needed.

The pay rate for this role in California is $37.44 to $53.02 per hour, which follows the pay scale agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
