Job Description

The Senior FPGA Engineer will lead and independently work on design and development tasks within a multi-disciplined team. Responsibilities include analyzing, designing, simulating, and implementing algorithms in hardware description languages (VHDL, Verilog) based on customer requirements. The role involves designing and implementing HDL test benches, guiding module designers, and interacting with critical customers for technical support. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on completing tasks on schedule.
Must have:
  • VHDL, Verilog HDL coding
  • Digital simulation using Modelsim/Questa
  • Experience with designer-level test bench (VHDL or SystemVerilog)
  • Familiarity with revision control (git, cvs, clearcase, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of internal logic analyzer (ILA/chipscope/signaltap)
  • Experience and willingness for lab testing
  • Strong Debug and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills.

Job Details

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Senior FPGA Engineer that can capably lead/work independently on design and development tasks while working within a multi-disciplined design team
  • Analyze, design, simulate, and implement algorithms in hardware descriptor languages, HDL (VHDL, Verilog), based on customer requirements and/or MATLAB model(s).
  • Analyze, design, and implement HDL test benches in hardware description languages, HDL (VHDL, Verilog), for code validation and validation against models
  • Guide and assist module designers to complete digital embedded module controller related hardware designs.
  • Be familiar with industry standards and customer requirements.       
  • Evaluate future requirements and define/develop the needed Digital architecture to meet these requirements.
  • Interact with critical customers to provide technical support, as needed.

Education & Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics or equivalent field.
  • 10+ years of experience with FPGA designs and development tools.

Skills

  • Experience in HDL Design/Development, including:
  • VHDL, Verilog HDL coding
    • Digital simulation using Modelsim/Questa or similar
    • Experience with designer-level test bench (VHDL or SystemVerilog)
    • Familiarity with revision control (git, cvs, clearcase, etc.)
    • Working knowledge of internal logic analyzer (ILA/chipscope/signaltap)
    • Experience and willingness for lab testing
  • Strong Debug and problem-solving skills
  • Must be a hard-working with good communication skills.
  • Must be able to work both independently, as well as part of a team.

Working Conditions

  • Collaborative working environment focused on completing tasks on schedule. Development timelines are aggressive, but realistic.  Will be part of a team working on a specific design, but with primary ownership of the FPGA/Digital elements.  Work environment may be both in office or from home, depending upon needs of the organization.  Some travel will be required, but limited, primarily working with other Coherent sites.

Physical Requirements

  • Limited, must be able to test developed software in engineering lab, in conjunction with other team members.  No heavy lifting or strenuous physical activity required.
