Summary

The VP, Payroll Tax at Cast & Crew will lead the payroll tax compliance and advisory organization. This hands-on role requires partnering with the business to drive the right decisions through data analysis. Responsibilities include managing a team of 16 payroll tax experts, overseeing all US and Canadian payroll tax filings, communicating with regulatory agencies, and implementing process improvements. The VP will also manage year-end tax processing, ensure strong internal controls, oversee quality control within payroll systems, and act as a subject matter expert for payroll tax compliance. This role requires deep operational efficiency knowledge, strong systems aptitude, and a focus on compliance and internal controls.
Must have:
  • 15+ years experience with 7+ years in payroll tax compliance
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance (CPA a plus)
  • Payroll Org certifications preferred (FPC, CPP)
  • Experience with complex payroll systems and large enterprise financial systems (Oracle preferred)
  • Strong internal controls focus and process optimization skills

Position Overview

The VP, Payroll Tax is a strategic business partner who will lead our Payroll Tax compliance and advisory organization. This leader will take a hands-on approach in partnering with the business to drive the right decisions through actionable insights and analyses. The successful leader must be ready to roll up their sleeves and dive into the systems and processes. This is a highly impactful role that reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer while working cross functionally throughout the Company. The role requires a deep passion for operational efficiency, strong aptitude for systems, and a laser focus on compliance and internal controls. The Vice President Payroll Tax is responsible for overseeing all payroll tax compliance including payment processing, filings, and other reporting related requirements in the US and Canada. 

Essential Functions

  • Management and development of a team of sixteen experienced payroll tax experts
  • Management of all payroll tax related filings for all legal entities across the US and Canada
  • Communication with regulatory agencies on any issues, audits and/or changes in tax filing requirements
  • Responsible for suggesting, and the eventual implementation of, methods to improve departmental operations, productivity, and service to both internal and external customers
  • Management of yearend tax processing including system enhancements, printing of required tax documents and time sensitive filings to applicable regulatory agencies
  • Responsible for policies and procedures that drive strong internal controls with a focus on process optimizations
  • Oversight of quality control within the payroll systems with respect to rates, calculations and reporting – ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Ensure documentation and cross-training for all processes within the department
  • Research, documentation and communication of all payroll tax related regulatory changes including any required system changes, working collaboratively with Payroll Operations, Product Management and Technology
  • Review of all account reconciliations related to payroll tax liabilities and management of any refunds due including correspondence with tax authorities
  • Prepare functional specifications for system related changes or enhancements and work with appropriate teams from inception through testing to implementation of requests
  • Act as a subject matter expert “SME” relative to payroll tax compliance for system related projects and other needs as they arise
  • Participate in industry and other related opportunities to learn best practices and upcoming legislative changes that may impact the business

Key Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience with a minimum of 7 years specific to payroll tax compliance
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or equivalent - CPA a plus
  • Payroll Org certifications preferred - Fundamental Payroll Certification, FPC, and/or Certified Payroll Professional, CPP
  • Entertainment production experience a plus
  • Experience with complex payroll systems with a deep familiarity with driving ongoing compliance and management of the related liabilities
  • Experience with large enterprise financial systems, preferably Oracle Financials (including Accounts Payable module)
  • Proven experience delivering in a high volume, deadline oriented, ever changing and fast-paced environment
  • Effective and persuasive in leading change, applying business acumen, company values, while demonstrating the emotional intelligence that inspires others
  • Effective in building collaborative relationships across organization and external stakeholders including clients, vendors and regulatory agency representatives

Special Work Conditions    

  • Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.
Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
The compensation range for this position is:
$200,000$225,000 USD
