The BIM Manager at Microsoft's CO+I will develop and manage datacenter BIM program requirements and technical content. This involves collaborating with engineers, researchers, and vendors to align datacenter BIM models with Microsoft's standards. Responsibilities include creating BIM documentation, training staff, ensuring integration with other software, reviewing models for conformance, developing BIM protocols, providing technical support, coordinating hardware/software, participating in coordination meetings, and developing virtual simulators. The role requires proficiency in Autodesk Suite (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks) and managing cross-functional projects. The position is hybrid/remote with relocation support provided for select locations.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years BIM experience

Overview

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) powers our cloud services. As a Building Information Modeling (BIM) Manager on the Systems Architecture & Engineering (SAE) Team within CO+I's CTO Office, you'll develop and manage datacenter BIM Program requirements and technical content. This role involves working with engineers, researchers, business partners, vendors, and suppliers to maintain and align datacenter BIM models with Microsoft's standards and specifications.

  • This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ. 
  • Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must ​relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location. 
  • This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in Building Information Modeling (BIM) Management or similar role in design or construction
    o OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • BIM project management experience, including the ability to manage BIM deliverables and coordinate between different disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP), Civil, Structural & Architectural (CSA) etc.).
  • Proven proficiency in BIM software, particularly the Autodesk Suite including Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks

 

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Building Information Modeling
  • Experience in staff training, management and development
  • Proficiency in operating Trimble Sketchup
  • Proficiency in operating SolidWorks
  • Experience with cross-disciplined systems design (Civil, Structural, Architectural, Electrical, Mechanical, IT/Telecom, Controls).  
  • Experience in creating, updating, and enforcing BIM Execution Plans.
  • Ability to detect, manage and resolve BIM-related technical and project management risks.
  • Proven attention to detail and the ability to perform thorough quality checks on BIM models.
  • Proven communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate and manage teams.
  • Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle complex projects.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of design and construction processes, standards, and methodologies
  • Analytical, problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience using MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, and Excel including effective reporting/presentations of project information

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with our cross-functional Systems Architecture Team of Datacenter Architects, Technical Program/Project Managers and Systems Engineers in the development, coordination, maintenance and management of BIM technical content, standards and project deliverables
  • Create and implement comprehensive BIM documentation and workflow processes BIM projects.
  • Train staff and project teams on BIM implementation to ensure effective use of BIM tools and processes.
  • Ensure accurate integration of BIM technology with other construction and design software
  • Work closely with project development and design delivery teams to integrate BIM technology seamlessly.
  • Review and manage models for conformance with BIM protocols and standards
  • Develop and maintain project BIM protocols and BIM execution plans
  • Provide technical support for BIM software offering technical assistance and ensuring that all software updates are applied.
  • Coordinate hardware and software requirements for BIM execution, managing the technical requirements for BIM projects.
  • Participate in BIM coordination meetings with project stakeholders managing project updates and resolving technical issues.
  • Coordinate the development of virtual simulators and digital twin models, enabling comprehensive technical and comparative analysis between the plan of record designs and alternatives. 
  • Coordinate with Partner teams, such as product management, testing, and validation, to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of the BIM products.
