Job Description

The Compositing Supervisor oversees the compositing team, ensuring timely and high-quality deliveries. Responsibilities include collaborating with production and creative teams, managing compositors across global studios, monitoring progress, solving problems, and performing complex shot compositing. The role requires expertise in Nuke, 3D computer graphics, and 2D image manipulation. The supervisor will develop production methodologies, provide input to the Head of 2D, and potentially create training materials. The ideal candidate possesses 7+ years of experience in live-action feature film or episodic compositing.

  • Outstanding leadership & time management
  • Effective communication & collaboration
Good to have:
  • Shotgrid/Flow experience
  • Python, Blinkscript, or C++ experience
  • Nuke particle experience
  • OCIO/ACES Color Config experience
  • 360 VR or Array Compositing experience

Job Details

As a Compositing Supervisor, you will oversee the compositing team, ensuring timely and high-quality deliveries. Your expertise in compositing and production methodologies will guide the team to resolve creative and technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with Production and other Creative teams to achieve the goals of the project
    • Ensure Deliveries are completed to the highest standards and consistency, both technically and creatively
    • Assist in planning and coordination of Compositing Deliveries
    • Manage a team of Compositors across global studios
    • Monitor the team's progress and help diagnose and solve problems
    • Recognize knowledge gaps and actively collaborate with the team to find solutions
    • On-the-box compositing of complex shots (live action sourced and/or full CG)
    • Utilize and share core knowledge of 2D image manipulation processes such as tracking, color correction, depth of field, retiming, warping, and photographic optical effects to achieve photorealistic composites. 
    • Develop production methodologies and creative approaches in anticipation of and to resolve problems
    • Provide input to Head of 2D on Compositor performance, compositing pipeline, and workflows

Qualifications

    • 7+ years live-action feature film or episodic compositing experience
    • Expert Nuke skills and knowledge of compositing workflows
    • Expert understanding of 3D computer graphics, including modeling, lighting, and animation
    • Outstanding leadership, organizational, and time management skills
    • Ability and desire to engage in positive collaboration and communicate effectively
    • Advanced knowledge and experience using Shotgrid/Flow or other VFX Production tracking software
    • Experience creating written or video recorded training materials
    • Traditional art, photography, and film background (preferred)
    • Python, Blinkscript, or C++ experience (preferred)
    • Nuke particle experience (preferred)
    • OCIO/ACES Color Config and management experience (preferred)
    • 360 VR or Array Compositing experience (preferred)
