Job Description
The Data Center Technician role at Google involves installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining server hardware and interacting with server software (e.g., Google's Linux clusters). Responsibilities include deploying and maintaining Google's advanced data center server and network infrastructure, contributing to projects related to data center infrastructure deployment and support, providing troubleshooting and resolving critical technical issues, testing and troubleshooting new server hardware, and configuring and troubleshooting Linux OS issues on servers. This position requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree and experience troubleshooting hardware/network issues using Linux tools. The role is based in Inzai, Chiba, Japan, and requires the ability to lift/move heavy equipment.
Must have:
- Bachelor's/Master's degree
- Linux troubleshooting experience
- Hardware/network troubleshooting
- Linux OS configuration
- Ability to lift heavy equipment
Good to have:
- Intermediate OS, PC hardware & networking knowledge
- Experience with LPIC or other Linux distributions

Job Details
Minimum qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- Experience with troubleshooting hardware/network issues using Linux tools
- Experience with LPIC or working with Linux (e.g., Red Hat, Slackware, Fedora, SUSE, Ubuntu, Debian, Gentoo), Unix (e.g., Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, BSD), or other similar OS (Windows).
Preferred qualifications:
- Understanding of intermediate OS, PC hardware and networking concepts, tools and protocols.
- Ability to lift/move heavy equipment as needed.
- Ability to start in 2026.

The Hardware Operations team is responsible for building and maintaining physical infrastructure behind Google's systems.
As a Data Center Technician, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware (e.g., servers and their components) and interact with server software (e.g., Google's Linux clusters). You will also deploy and maintain Google's advanced data center server and network infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Contribute efforts/projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of current and new data center infrastructure.
- Provide troubleshooting, and resolve critical, or escalated technical issues.
- Help test and troubleshoot new server hardware components and designs.
- Configure and troubleshoot Linux OS-related issues on servers.
