Job Description

This Legal Trainee role at Google offers a 12-month fixed-term contract focused on addressing the legal challenges of the digital age. The successful candidate will conduct legal research across various areas (intellectual property, consumer regulations, data protection, etc.), respond to legal requests, assist in court actions, contribute to internal knowledge databases, and participate in drafting agreements. The role requires fluency in English, Dutch, and French, a law degree from a Belgian University with an LLM specialization (new technologies, commercial law, copyright, or privacy law), and prior experience in a law firm or company legal department. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and research skills, ideally with experience in IP, technology, or media law. This position provides exposure to a fast-paced environment and the opportunity to create innovative legal approaches to complex problems.

Must have:

Law degree (Belgian University, LLM)
Fluency in English, Dutch, French
Legal research & analysis skills
Experience in law firm/legal department
Ability to manage multiple projects

Good to have:

Experience in IP, technology, or media law
Interest in technology & IT law

Minimum qualifications:

Law degree from a Belgian University, with a specialisation (LLM) in law and new technologies, commercial law, copyright law or privacy law.
Experience working in a law firm or legal department of a company.
Ability to communicate in English, Dutch and French fluently to support client relationship management in this region.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience with legal analysis and research.
Experience in intellectual property, technology, or media law, with an interest in technology and IT-relevant legal problems and recent developments.
Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Available to start between February to March 2025 for 12 months fixed-term contract.

Responsibilities

Conduct legal research on a variety of legal topics (e.g., intellectual property, consumer regulations, media regulations, advertising law, data protection, etc.).
Respond to various legal requests from users and third-parties in relation to Google services.
Assist the Legal team in the preparation and the management of court actions.
Participate in the creation and maintenance of internal knowledge databases for the Legal team.
Participate in the review and drafting of agreements.
