Your New Role:
The Lighting Console Programmer / Operator will work closely with the Lighting Designer, Lighting Director, Lighting Assistants and Video Engineers (V1) to achieve the desired lighting effects in the studio. As the Lighting Console Programmer / Operator, you will be responsible for the programming, maintenance, and operation of the lighting console during both prep and live productions, ensuring a seamless execution of lighting designs that enhance the visual quality of our broadcasts.
Your Role Accountabilities:
LIVE/TAPED PRODUCTIONS
Collaborate with the Lighting Designer, Lighting Director, Lighting Assistants and Video Engineers to understand the lighting requirements for each production and create lighting designs that align with the overall vision.
Program, cue, and operate the lighting console to control and adjust the intensity, color, and positioning of lighting during live broadcasts under the supervision/direction of the Lighting Director.
Fax all presets and lighting cues prior to each production to assure proper functionality. Troubleshooting and adjusting any technical issues related to the lighting setup before and during live broadcasts.
Assist with the safe operation, hanging and/or installation of lighting equipment including conventional lights, moving lights, work lights, back up lighting and dimmer systems.
Attend to the maintenance and inspection of all lighting systems on a regular schedule.
COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION
Assist the Lighting Director with documentation to ensure the production setup is current and formally recorded to preserve the original intention of the Lighting Designers
Work closely with Technical Operations and Production (BEST) Engineering to identify, troubleshoot and solve technical problems with the lighting console. Making sure each problem is resolved to completion.
Qualifications & Experiences:
5-7 years of network level broadcast production experience programming and operating lighting consoles
In-depth knowledge of GrandMA and/or ETC lighting consoles including the ability to program entire lighting schemes based on Lighting Director and Production’s needs.
In-depth knowledge of industry standard lighting instruments and network connectivity such as DMX, Artnet, CAN and SMPTE.
In-depth knowledge of AC power systems, power distribution and Studios/Industry safety regulations
Proficient in programming moving lights, conventional lights, and LED lights for live broadcast productions.
Must have strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve quickly in high-pressure live broadcast environments.
Must take ownership and accountability for assigned productions.
Good computer skills, a logical approach and creative eye.
Must be able to handle the pressures of live programming and limited time constraints.
Able to work flexible, non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays.
Not Required but preferred experience:
Knowledgeable of new technologies available or on the horizon
OSHA and/or ETCP certification
