The Materials Handling Supervisor will perform tasks in compliance with regulations and company policies. This role involves managing the movement, storage, and shipping of materials, including real-time electronic transactions in warehouse management software. The supervisor will oversee the workflow of material handlers, create schedules, monitor inventory, and ensure adherence to safety guidelines. Responsibilities include supervising performance, addressing personnel matters, and collaborating with other departments. The supervisor will also be responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training. They will also identify areas for improvement, troubleshoot issues, and perform cross-functional job duties.
Must have:

  • Supervise and guide the intercompany delivery process.
  • Identify errors and troubleshoot.

Job Details

Position Summary:

Perform work in compliance with all cGMP, ISO, and FDA regulations in addition to company policy and safety guidelines. Expert in the physical movement, support, and administrative tasks involved in receiving, shipping, and storing of all material types. This role will also be responsible for the real time electronic transactions in various warehouse management software. Exemplify high proficiency of lean manufacturing, good housekeeping principles, and 6S. Oversees day-to-day workflow with assigned group of Material Handlers. Responsible for additional leadership and duties in the absence of leadership. This position builds upon the Material Handler position and may be asked to perform those activities as a regular part of their job.

 

Primary Duties:

  1. Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of bioMérieux’s Quality System.
  2. Follow all general OSHA Safety Guidelines for warehouses.
  3. Demonstrate and communicate safety guidelines and awareness.
  4. Enforce and coach direct reports and employees to the Attendance Policy and maintain proper documentation on points incurred.
  5. Collaborate with applicable departments to ensure material and processes meet business, quality, and production requirements.
  6. Create daily work schedule to maximize efficiency and ensure rotation of job tasks.
  7. Supervises performance of team members to ensure personnel matters are addressed and works with the Manager to deescalate problems, resolve issues, or pursue corrective action as necessary.
  8. Assists manager with interviewing and hiring personnel.
  9. Responsible for timesheet and PTO approvals.
  10. Assist management in creating, tracking and reporting of key performance indicators (KPI’s).
  11. Receive, quantify, ship, and store incoming material from various delivery sources according to WID and material specification.
  12. Supervise and guide the intercompany delivery process of production and non-production materials.
  13. Monitor and adjust Kanban levels and request inventory replenishment as needed.
  14. Supervise and guide the production warehouses with the following: processes, stock, and cycle auditing of materials.
  15. Understand and assist the Non-Conforming Report (NCR) process.
  16. Identify errors, troubleshoot, and problem solve at an expert level.
  17. Perform work autonomously with minimal to no oversight.
  18. Identify areas that need improvement and work with management to implement Kaizen solutions.
  19. Perform cross functional job duties at multiple Material Management locations.
  20. Assist leadership in collaboration with all departments to accomplish company goals.
  21. Act as a subject matter expert for complex material handling processes and procedures.
  22. Conduct and attend all applicable meetings. 
  23. Practice and mentor material handlers in lean manufacturing, good manufacturing practices (cGMP), and 6S.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned.

  1. Exemplify professionalism and collaborative interpersonal communication with internal and external customers.
  2. In the event a job function requires the use of a company vehicle, a valid Driver’s License is required.

 

Training, Education & Experience:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Internal requirement: A minimum of 2 years within the Material Management department at bioMérieux is preferred.
  3. External requirement: 3 years of relevant inventory, warehouse, shipping and/or, receiving experience. 2 years minimum in a leadership role.
  4. A combination of applicable leadership and/or work experience may be considered in lieu of the aforementioned experience.
  5. Materials handling experience within the medical device industry, including working with the FDA regarding control of materials for instruments and chemistry is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Expert level of accuracy, timeliness, and efficiency in all job duties.
  2. Demonstrates expertise in all applicable warehouse functions. 
  3. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and internal software. 
  4. Excellent communication skills.
  5. Proficiency in Material Resource Planning (MRP).
  6. Aptitude for leading and mentorship.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps, and the like.
  • Ability to wear PPE correctly all day, subject to work location.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery.
  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.

Must be able to work in warehouse conditions with long periods of standing, climbing, bending, walking, and reaching in wide temperature ranges. High level of repetitive motion. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to operate material handling equipment. Overtime may be required. The work is fast paced and must be able to work under pressure.
