Role Description:
LSEG is looking for a Principal Network Design Engineer (WAN) to establish successful partnerships with our internal product, engineering, operational and business partners.
This is a technical position for someone who can investigate, design, engineer, build and test hybrid on premise and cloud-optimized network designs.
The role involves elements of design, engineering, automation and testing to produce infrastructure designs that align with business and architectural requirements.
As well as a confirmed technical background, the ideal candidate will be able to follow industry standard design, development and engineering frameworks incorporating planning, design, implementation, engineering, testing, operation and optimization. Be able to effectively participate in multi-functional meetings, clearly articulate infrastructure features and capabilities, translate business requirements into technical requirements into outcomes that are fit for purpose and use.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates accurate knowledge of platforms, systems and tools in the Infrastructure and network domain and steers the process of design, development and implementation
- Contributes to and develops high-quality Infrastructure & Network design and architecture.
- Understands and embraces the technology strategy and identifies, prioritises and completes tasks in the Infrastructure & Network development lifecycle.
- Develops tools and applications, producing well designed and tested, efficient systems following practices in development and coding techniques.
- Designs, develops and delivers Infrastructure & Network solutions that align with architecture, operational and risk policies, standards and processes.
- Coordinates the delivery of complex projects and automates tasks through appropriate systems, methods, tools and scripting.
- Supports quality testing, including validation and verification testing, communicating defects and enhancement requests to teams, projects in a timely manner
- Collaborates positively with internal teams (including Product Owners/Business and Client Analysis) and vendors to efficiently fix and improve products
Candidate Profile / Key Skills:
- Deep and broad experience of delivering enterprise scale infrastructure in a similar role
- Responsible for analysis, functional design and engineering, and problem solving for software defined Infrastructure products.
- In-depth vendor and hands on technical knowledge across a wide range of Infrastructure (cloud and network) technologies and associated protocols
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco IOS, Cisco NXOS, IOS-XR, Cisco hardware, Juniper Hardware and JUNIOS software, Accedian Network Interface Nodes, Ixia test generator, IP Routing and Switching.
- Strong working knowledge and experience with: TCP/IP, Cisco IOS, Cisco NXOS, IOS-XR, Juniper JUNIOS, LAN/WAN, Service Provider/Extranet networks, Ethernet switching, including BGP, ISIS, L2/L3VPN, MPLS, QoS, Traffic Engineering, Network Service Orchestration and Service orchestration (NSO) and programmable networks
- AWS, Azure, GCP connectivity methodologies
- Experience with service automation and network transformation.
- Excellent written and presentation skills, evident customer service bias and strong attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills and outstanding problem-solving ability
- Experience as a network design engineer with hands-on Cisco IP Routing/Switching design and implementation in a service provider environment.
- Knowledge around JIRA (epic, story, task tracking, scrums-based delivery), Confluence and Gitlab tooling is crucial
- Experience of delivering Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Ansible/Terraform
Desired Qualification:
Degree in Computer Science or Electronics / Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
CCIE preferred (Service Provider)
