Responsibilities

• Oversee and mentor 2-4 junior designers, CAD technicians and EIT’s to complete designs and drawings in accordance with standards and to a consistent quality.
• Work within a project team to prepare designs and drawings, primarily for linear municipal infrastructure (roads, sewers and watermains), but also for site servicing, storm water facilities and other infrastructure.
• Coordinate with the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer to establish the design requirements, deliverables and timelines.
• Within Civil3D and AutoCAD carry out design of sewers and watermains, local roads, and grading.
• Maintain existing CAD standards and work with Morrison Hershfield’s CAD leaders to establish new standards.
• Coordinate with other project disciplines (within and external to Morrison Hershfield) for interference checking, CAD standards, quality control, etc.
• Carry out field and construction site visits for data collection, and more occasionally for condition assessment and site inspection.
• Perform other duties associated with working in a professional engineering environment
• Qualifications:
• Technical College diploma or equivalent experience
• Minimum 8 years of experience in municipal infrastructure design and drafting
• High level of proficiency in the use of Civil 3D and AutoCAD
• Strong working knowledge of Civil 3D functions including Surfaces, Pipe Networks, Pressure Pipe Networks, Corridors, Alignments/Profiles/Profile Views, Grading tools, cut/fill calculations, Data Shortcuts, Labels, etc., including ability to create, modify and use Styles to efficiently produce drawings that comply with the applicable CAD standards.
• Strong working knowledge of basic CAD principles (text placement and editing, layering, snap, precision input, data management and use of xrefs, etc)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Familiarity with design criteria for local municipalities and OPSD
• Knowledge and experience with MicroStation and/or ArcGIS will be considered an additional asset.
