From concept development through to operations and management, we provide a full range of municipal engineering services. Systems that handle traffic, storm water, potable water and wastewater, as well as those that transmit power and communications are designed with quality, safety, efficiency, and environment stewardship with future demands in mind.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and mentor 2-4 junior designers, CAD technicians and EIT’s to complete designs and drawings in accordance with standards and to a consistent quality.
- Work within a project team to prepare designs and drawings, primarily for linear municipal infrastructure (roads, sewers and watermains), but also for site servicing, storm water facilities and other infrastructure.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer to establish the design requirements, deliverables and timelines.
- Within Civil3D and AutoCAD carry out design of sewers and watermains, local roads, and grading.
- Maintain existing CAD standards and work with Morrison Hershfield’s CAD leaders to establish new standards.
- Coordinate with other project disciplines (within and external to Morrison Hershfield) for interference checking, CAD standards, quality control, etc.
- Carry out field and construction site visits for data collection, and more occasionally for condition assessment and site inspection.
- Perform other duties associated with working in a professional engineering environment
- Qualifications:
- Technical College diploma or equivalent experience
- Minimum 8 years of experience in municipal infrastructure design and drafting
- High level of proficiency in the use of Civil 3D and AutoCAD
- Strong working knowledge of Civil 3D functions including Surfaces, Pipe Networks, Pressure Pipe Networks, Corridors, Alignments/Profiles/Profile Views, Grading tools, cut/fill calculations, Data Shortcuts, Labels, etc., including ability to create, modify and use Styles to efficiently produce drawings that comply with the applicable CAD standards.
- Strong working knowledge of basic CAD principles (text placement and editing, layering, snap, precision input, data management and use of xrefs, etc)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Familiarity with design criteria for local municipalities and OPSD
- Knowledge and experience with MicroStation and/or ArcGIS will be considered an additional asset.
