The Senior Game Designer II at TiMi Montreal will design and create combat gameplay, including rules, controls, character design, enemies, and bosses. Responsibilities involve using game engine tools (UE4/UE5) for implementation and debugging, collaborating with other design teams, leading cross-functional teams, and optimizing content. The ideal candidate has significant AAA action game experience, a strong understanding of character animation, combat design experience, scripting skills, and a deep understanding of user experience and data analysis. The role requires leading the production process from concept to final implementation and supporting the lead designer.

About the Hiring Team

TiMi Montreal is a new AAA development team making an innovative open world role-playing game in Unreal Engine 5 that is part of the award-winning TiMi Studio Group and Tencent. The studio’s core team has a proven track record making hit open world games, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Watch Dogs. This is an ambitious team who aspires to be a flagship first-party studio for TiMi, reaching global audiences of passionate gamers who appreciate the studio’s optimistic and inclusive culture that rewards disruptive, risk-taking game development.

Interactive Entertainment Group (IEG) is responsible for the R&D, operation, and development of the company's interactive entertainment business including games and eSports. Through online gaming, live broadcasts, and offline eSports, IEG assists the company in leading the global interactive entertainment market to create better interactive entertainment content experiences for users.

  • Design and create combat gameplay, including combat rules, controls, 3C (Character, Camera, Controls), character design, and the design of enemies and bosses.

  • Use game engine tools, such as editors, scripts, and blueprints, to configure and implement character 3C, skills, and gameplay. Independently debug and iterate on character feel, animations, and visual effects.

  • Use game engine tools, such as editors, scripts, blueprints, and behavior tree components, to configure enemies. Independently debug and iterate on enemy abilities, AI behaviors, and visual effects.

  • Collaborate with level design, system design, and narrative design teams to refine the combat gameplay experience.

  • Lead a cross-functional feature team (art, programming) to drive the production process of combat experiences, characters, and enemies from concept to final implementation.

  • Debug, resolve issues, and optimize the content you are responsible for, as well as related content from other team members.

  • Support and assist the lead designer in completing required tasks.

Who We Look For

  • Significant experience as a core team member involved in at least one AAA-quality action game that is near launch or has already been released.

  • A strong sensitivity to character animation design, with the ability to logically and clearly analyze and focus on combat animation details.

  • Over three years of experience in combat design for 3D real-time action games.

  • Basic ability to create narrative setups for characters.

  • Proficient in using mainstream engines such as UE4/UE5, with the capability to independently develop content in the engine.

  • Ability to use scripting languages to prototype simple features within the engine and debug scripts effectively.

  • Strong understanding of user experience and the ability to analyze user behavior through data to inform design decisions.

  • A dedicated core action game player (has played 10+ 3D action games for over 50 hours each, with at least one game exceeding 200 hours).

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
