Your New Role

The Senior Producer of programming, Hong Kong, reports to the Senior Editor, Global Programming. This is a leadership role on the Programming and Distribution team, leading homepages and alerts for a global audience.

The Senior Producer will work collaboratively across content and social teams to manage breaking news and beyond, ensuring CNN’s daily output reflects a broad range of global news. They understand digital audiences and data, with the ability to use live data and a/b testing to optimize CNN’s content for its audience across platforms.

The Senior Producer of programming has strong news judgment, is a proficient headline writer and has a keen eye for detail. They are also highly organized and communicative, with the ability to share need-to-know information and feedback internally and externally with programming partners. They are also willing to experiment and innovate how we connect audiences to our journalism on our homepages. 

Your Role Accountabilities

  • You’ll edit CNN International’s mobile, app and desktop platforms according to the day’s editorial priorities as set by senior editors.

  • Use real-time, hourly and daily data to inform programming decisions.

  • Undertake A/B tests to ensure maximum reach and impact of our diverse journalism.

  • Work with editors to write accurate and engaging push and banner alerts.

  • Write clever and catchy headlines, imaginative teases and select impactful images.

  • Collaborate over programming choices and share best practices with members of the wider global programming team.

  • Work with CNN Newsgathering and digital content teams to ensure comprehensive and timely coverage of daily news agenda.

  • Help shape publication plans for our enterprise projects and for planned events.

  • Work with key verticals to ensure the successful delivery of commercial targets.

  • Liaise with programming teams around the world, ensuring seamless handovers and coordinated coverage.

  • Be a CMS super-user.

Qualifications & Experience… 

  • At least five years’ experience of working in a digital newsroom.

  • Experience in breaking news desirable.

  • Talent for writing impactful and engaging headlines, teases and notifications.

  • Adept at analysing digital audience data.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Supervise and guide the producers and interns on the team.

  • Experience of digital content management systems.

  • Demonstrable interest in international news and global affairs.

  • Desire to make CNN International innovative and distinctive.

  • Confident understanding of emerging digital platforms.

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

  • Global mindset.

  • Highly organized and adapts well to changes at work.
