Job Description

As a Senior Research Scientist in NLP at Google, you'll lead research projects focused on improving Large Language Models (LLMs). Responsibilities include defining data structures, frameworks, and evaluation metrics; identifying and addressing technological gaps; leading research on LLM efficiency; collaborating with other research teams and Google product teams; and publishing research findings. The role requires a PhD in Computer Science or a related field, 2+ years of experience leading research, and publications in conferences or journals. Experience with LLMs, generative AI, and coding is essential. You will work on real-world problems, applying cutting-edge theories to improve Google products and processes.

Must have:

PhD in CS or related field
2+ years leading research
Publications in NLP/AI
LLM and GenAI experience
Strong coding skills
Lead research projects

Good to have:

Experience with modern LLMs
Multimodality experience
LLM efficiency expertise
Experience influencing researchers

Minimum qualifications:

PhD degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
2 years of experience leading a research agenda.
One or more scientific publication submission(s) for conferences, journals, or public repositories.
Experience with Large Language Models, NLP, or Generative AI.
Experience with coding.

Preferred qualifications:

1 year of experience leading research efforts and influencing other researchers.
Experience with modern LLMs and generative models, in fields like NLP or multimodality.
Experience with efficiency, modularity or related topics for LLMs.
Experience with GenAI fields.

Responsibilities

Drive project work by defining the data structure, framework, design, and evaluation metrics for research solution development and implementation. Identify timelines and obtain resources needed.
Identify defined problems/gaps in existing technology and engage stakeholders and leaders to address them.
Lead the research of technology for improving Large Language Model (LLM) efficiency of performing target capabilities or supporting many capabilities, such as novel architectures and improved pre-training.
Collaborate with other Research teams to expand efficient LLM technology.
Collaborate with Google first-party partner teams to deliver new technologies to production.
