The Microsoft Software Technology Center Asia (STCA) seeks a Chief Scientist to lead its applied science team across multiple product areas. This role involves driving AI innovation, enhancing productivity through AI-driven solutions, and collaborating with various teams to build high-quality products. The successful candidate will represent STCA on the global research council, recruit and develop a strong team of scientists, and exemplify Microsoft's values. The position requires a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field, 15+ years of applied research/product development experience, and 5+ years of management experience leading applied science teams. Strong communication skills and a passion for innovation are essential.

Overview

The Microsoft Software Technology Center Asia (STCA) is seeking a Chief Scientist with a proven track record in applied research and product innovation. As the Chief Scientist of STCA, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, lead a team of brilliant scientists, and make a significant impact on the future of AI and product innovation.  You will be part of a dynamic and inclusive culture that values growth, collaboration, and the pursuit of excellence.

This position reports directly to the Corporate Vice President leading STCA.

Location: Suzhou or Beijing, China

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in applied research or product development.
  • 5+ years of management experience leading and growing applied science teams.
  • Proven track record of recruiting and nurturing the talent of research, applied science, or data science.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering high-quality products and services.
  • Strong communication skills in English (both verbal and written).
  • A passion for innovation and user experience.
  • Ability to work effectively with executives and across teams.
  • Experience with Microsoft productivity products is a plus.
  • Experience working with global R&D teams is a plus.
  • Expereince working in China is a plus.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the STCA applied science team across multiple product areas.
  • Represent STCA on the global research council of the Experiences + Devices (E+D) Division.
  • Drive AI innovation across STCA product areas.
  • Enhance productivity through AI-driven solutions.
  • Collaborate with Development, Program Management, and Design teams to build innovative and high-quality products that delight customers and users.
  • Recruit and build a strong team of outstanding applied and data scientists.
  • Motivate and develop team members, supporting their career growth.
  • Exemplify Microsoft values and culture.
