Job Description

This Principal, Generative AI Safety Strategy role within Google's Ads division focuses on developing and executing a comprehensive safety strategy aligned with business objectives. Responsibilities include identifying and addressing vulnerabilities, improving response speed and quality to abuse, testing critical business areas, making high-level recommendations, and participating in on-call rotations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with experience in data analytics, Trust and Safety, policy, or cybersecurity. Exposure to graphic content is expected. The role requires collaboration with engineering, policy, and product teams to create tools and solutions that enhance user safety.

Job Details


Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in data analytics, Trust and Safety, policy, cyber-security, business strategy, or related fields.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in relevant field.
  • Experience in SQL, building dashboards, data collection/transformation, visualization/dashboards, or experience in a scripting/programming language (e.g., Python).
  • Experience in a technical lead role in a Trust and Safety environment.
  • Experience working with engineering, policy and product teams to create tools, solutions, or automation to improve user safety.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence cross-functionally at various levels.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.

Trust & Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. A team of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers, we work to reduce risk and fight abuse across all of Google’s products, protecting our users, advertisers, and publishers across the globe in over 40 languages.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $160,000-$237,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive safety strategy that aligns with business objectives. Represent the team's work to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Identify and address vulnerabilities in critical business processes. Lead efforts to improve the speed and quality of responses to abuse.
  • Test critical areas that are important for the business, drive clarity, and make high-level recommendations for critical business processes.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to address urgent issues.
  • Be exposed to graphic, controversial, or upsetting content.
