As a Senior CAE - Full Vehicle Occupant Safety at Scout Motors, you will be a part of an iconic brand aiming to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck and rugged SUV market. Your responsibilities will include developing and validating safety structures and occupant safety systems using CAE tools like LS-DYNA, conducting crashworthiness simulations, and contributing to safety development and crash optimization from concept to launch. You'll collaborate with various teams and external partners, ensuring seamless integration of CAE analysis, driving innovation, and representing the CAE team in meetings. This role requires in-person attendance at meetings and events based in Novi, Michigan.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s or master’s in engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in crash safety simulation.
  • In-depth working experience with LSDYNA, Primer, and ANSA.
  • Familiarity with global automotive safety regulations.

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Develop and validate safety structures and occupant safety systems using CAE tools.
  • Develop and analyze 1D math models for quick solutions and initial design evaluations.
  • Conduct crashworthiness simulations using LS-DYNA to predict structural integrity and impact protection.
  • Develop and define sections for lead structures and load paths for front, side, rear, and roof crash modes.
  • Apply material characterization to integrate complex material behavior and failure modes into simulation models.
  • Participate in full program cycles from initial concept development to product launch, contributing to safety development and crash optimization.
  • Document simulation results and provide recommendations for optimizing crash structures.
  • Demonstrate proven experience in development of crash/safety digital twins for automotive applications, ensuring successful execution from inception to launch.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including design, testing, attributes and regulatory compliance teams, to facilitate seamless integration of CAE analysis into the product development process.
  • Collaborate with external partners, such as suppliers and research institutions, to leverage expertise and resources for advanced crash simulation and safety analysis capabilities.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the CAE team, identifying opportunities to enhance simulation methodologies, tools, and workflows.
  • Represent the CAE team in cross-functional meetings and project reviews, effectively communicating analysis results, insights, and recommendations to senior management and key stakeholders.

Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, MI. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in crash safety simulation driven development.
  • In-depth working experience with LSDYNA, Primer and ANSA.
  • Familiarity with global automotive safety regulations and standards (e.g., FMVSS, IIHS, USNCAP, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation in crash safety engineering and prediction schemes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work seamlessly across departments to achieve common goals.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $140,000-$160,000
