Archetype Entertainment is a new game studio in Austin, Texas led by industry veterans from BioWare and other AAA studios. Archetype is a division of Wizards of the Coast (Hasbro). We are building a development team with world-class talent to create a new science fiction universe for our first multiplatform roleplaying video game.

We chose Austin because it is a great city to live and work. Austin is the capital of Texas and is a fast-growing city with a vibrant music scene, cosmopolitan culture, a premier university (the University of Texas at Austin - “Hook ‘em Horns!”), and scenic rolling hills.


We are seeking a Senior Gameplay Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating and building high quality game systems for our exciting next-generation project. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and conscientious engineer with deep knowledge of developing outstanding games. We’re looking for someone that loves working on gameplay systems, especially systems for authoring compelling level environments and experiences. This role collaborates with the Lead World Engineer.


What You’ll Do

  • Co-develop mission and narrative systems with other specialists across the gameplay engineering team; such as AI, Narrative, RPG, and Cinematics teams.
  • Implement, improve, and maintain core world building systems including (but not limited to) level construction, quest scripting, crowd systems and other related features using Unreal Engine.
  • Collaborate with designers to develop a wholistic toolset to achieve their vision.
  • Participate in code and scripting reviews to mentor members of the engineering team as well as technical designers.
  • Optimize game performance to ensure smooth frame rates and overall performance.


What You’ll Bring

  • Experience developing quality AAA titles using large, multiplatform engines.
  • Expertise with the C++ programming language; strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Compensation Range, Currency USD:

  • Starting Pay Range: $128,669
  • Pay Range End: $215,571
