Job Description

This role involves understanding Japanese user needs within Google Search, collaborating with Product Managers and UX designers, and developing new features to address those needs. Responsibilities include identifying user needs, working across the full-stack (data collection, serving, and UI), building new features, and conducting live experiments and offline evaluations to test the effectiveness of these features. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills in Japanese, experience in software development (preferably with back-end experience), and a passion for improving the user experience within a global context. The work contributes to Google Search's broader goal of reimagining how people search for information.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
1+ years software development experience (C++ or Java)
Fluent Japanese communication
Full-stack development skills
Collaboration with PMs and UX

Good to have:

Back-end development experience
Experience with A/B testing and data analysis

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
1 year of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C++ or Java).

Preferred qualifications:

Experience with back-end development.
Ability to communicate in Japanese fluently to support Japanese queries.

Responsibilities

Figure out Japanese user needs and understand which features to build.
Work closely with Program Manager and UX, and across the stack from data collection, serving, and UI to build new features.
Test the usefulness of new features by running live experiments, offline evaluations, analyzing results, feature engineering, and creativity.
