MyFitnessPal is looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Android to join the Ads team. The role involves driving the technical direction of the MyFitnessPal Android app, ensuring the app meets customer expectations, empowering team members, working on impactful features, using A/B testing, modernizing the codebase, improving code quality, and collaborating with product teams. The engineer will be responsible for delivering a delightful user experience and driving meaningful business growth. They will also need to adhere to MyFitnessPal's core values, including being kind, prioritizing health, being data-inspired, championing change, leaving things better, and making things happen.
Must have:
  • 6+ years of Android app building experience
  • Experience with Java and Kotlin
  • Experience with Jetpack Libraries
  • Advocate of clean code and good architecture
  • Experience with CI/CD infrastructure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Git in a team environment
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Comfort working with RESTful APIs
  • Experience with MVVM or MVI
  • Experience with Kotlin Coroutines
  • Experience with Dagger and Hilt

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Android to join the MyFitnessPal Ads team. Our users rely on the MyFitnessPal Android app to power their health and fitness journeys every day. As a member of our MyFitnessPal Engineering team, you’ll have the opportunity to positively impact those users with your expertise in the Android development ecosystem. About the Team:

Our brand-new Ads team is dually focused on improving the existing Ads experience while exploring novel formats for advertising throughout the user journey. What you’ll be doing: 

  • Drive the technical direction of the MyFitnessPal Android app
  • Continuously ensure the vitals of the app exceed customer expectations
  • Empower & coach others on and outside the team to perform at their best
  • Work on high impact features that bring value to our 13m+ users
  • Use A/B testing to quickly iterate on user experiences
  • Continuously modernize the MyFitnessPal Android app codebase while delivering on the product roadmap
  • Improve code quality through unit testing with increased code coverage
  • Work closely with product teams to define and refine feature specifications

Qualifications to be successful in this role: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of experience in building, testing, releasing, and maintaining Android applications in Java and Kotlin
  • Experience with Jetpack Libraries
  • Advocate of clean code, good architecture, and great testing practices
  • Holistic view of the product with experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience setting up and maintaining CI/CD infrastructure with the goal of continuously delivering value to our customers as often and safely as possible
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Eager to learn and teach through collaboration
  • Substantial experience with Git in a team environment
  • Experience working with a relational database
  • Comfort working with RESTful APIs
  • Experience with MVVM or MVI
  • Experience with Kotlin Coroutines
  • Experience with Dagger and Hilt

  • Experience migrating a large legacy codebase to modern standards

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at MyFitnessPal ranges from $160,000 - $190,000. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
