Summary

The VP of Tax at VGW will lead the tax function, encompassing planning, strategy, compliance, reporting, and risk management. The VP will also lead and develop the tax team, driving technology implementation and process improvements. The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years of experience in tax roles, including at least 5 years in a global tax leadership position, strong tax counsel experience, and demonstrated success in building high-performing teams.

VP of Tax

The VP of Tax will lead the VGW Tax function including tax planning & strategy, compliance, reporting, and risk management.

This role involves developing tax strategies that align with the company's financial goals, maintaining compliance with tax regulations, and minimising tax liabilities through strategic planning.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement tax strategies that align with overall business objectives and support financial growth, in particular ongoing review of the company’s international tax structure and transfer pricing practices.
  • Advise the Executive Council and senior management on the tax implications of business activities, including mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and expansions.
  • Manage all planning and compliance for corporate income taxes, indirect taxation, and tax provisions - across a range of jurisdictions 
  • Maintain a tax internal controls environment ensuring compliance across all jurisdictions.
  • Partner with senior leaders and other departments, including Finance, Legal & Compliance, to support business objectives and decision-making with tax insights.
  • Manage relationships with tax authorities and oversee tax audits, examinations, and inquiries.
  • Drive the use of technology to enhance the compliance processes 
  • Drive the transformation of the tax function, focusing on people development, process improvement, and technology implementation.
  • Lead and develop the tax team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

What you will bring to the role:

  • 10-15 years of experience in tax roles, with at least 5 years in a global tax leadership position.
  • Degree(s) in accounting/commerce or law. 
  • Strong tax counsel experience, at least 5 years of relevant experience in corporate international tax, preferably from a big 4 environment or in a similar commercial tax role.
  • Demonstrated experience and strong knowledge in employment tax legislation as applicable to large corporate entities.
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing tax teams.
  • Proven experience in handling tax audits, negotiating with tax authorities, and managing relationships with regulatory bodies.
  • NSW solicitor holding a current Australian practising certificate is desirable. 
  • Chartered Accountant qualification is desirable. 
  • Postgraduate academic qualifications such as a Masters of Tax or Graduate Diploma in Tax is desirable.
