Job Description

The Analyst, Engineer - Seats role involves designing and integrating interior seat components for electric pick-up trucks and rugged SUVs. Responsibilities include designing, releasing, and integrating seat components, collaborating with various engineering teams, optimizing designs, managing suppliers, and ensuring components meet performance requirements. The role requires a minimum of 5 years of product development experience in the automotive industry, with at least 2 years specifically in interior seats. The role is based in Novi, Michigan and requires 3-4 days of in-office attendance. The candidate will play a key role in the design and development of interior seats, ensuring that all components meet required safety, performance, and regulatory standards.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
  • Minimum 5 years of automotive product development experience
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of CAD software (CATIA), FEA, DFMEA/PFMEA, DVP&R, and GD&T
Good to have:
  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Master's degree in Business Administration
  • Familiarity with Scout Motors business systems / procedures

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Assume responsibility for the design release of the Interior Seats components/assemblies and their integration into the vehicle. This includes system sourcing, packaging, drawing release, design validation, sub-system integration, ramp-up, and manufacturing support
  • Collaborate closely with the design studio and other engineering teams to develop optimal packages for interior styling
  • Work closely with the CAE team to provide design inputs and utilize CAE results to optimize the component design and performance
  • Use CAD software, to package components efficiently and robustly, optimizing for cost, weight, and commercial targets
  • Apply program management skills to ensure suppliers meet timing, quality, cost, and validation deliverables, serving as the main point of contact for all supplier interfaces
  • Ensure that failure avoidance tools and processes (DFMEA/FMA) are applied to all components/assemblies
  • Develop and manage the validation plan and test labs ensuring all components and sub-systems meet necessary performance requirements and regulations
  • Oversee supplier component DVP and control system level testing to ensure desired performance is achieved
  • Analyze test results and identify necessary adjustments to the components/assemblies or interfacing components to achieve the most effective resolution
  • Review and approve technical content of related changes throughout the development process
  • Act as coach and mentor for the Interior Engineering Group for design expertise and knowledge through educational training and hands-on instructions
  • Must have an understanding to translate Voice of the Customer needs into engineering metric

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan. 
  • The responsibilities of this role require 3-4 days attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Education/Certifications: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Years of Experience: Minimum of 5 years of Product Development experience in automotive industry, experience including 2 years in Interiors seats
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong background in product design, analysis, and development required
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills required
  • Knowledge of part capability studies, statistical analysis, and FEA required
  • Knowledge of CATIA V5/V6, Team Center, MS Office required
  • Substantial knowledge in DFMEA/PFMEA, DVP&R, DP's, CAE, & GD&T
  • Strong Knowledge of metals, foam, Injection molding, and material properties
  • Strong Knowledge of FMVSS Regulations Related to Interiors
  • Strong Knowledge of Fasteners
  • Experience working with Product Design Office
  • Experience with Shainin Red X and Kepner-Tregoe Reactive Problem solving tools
  • Experience with Design for Sigma (DFSS) using proactive quality tools
  • Result oriented, energetic self-starting leader with ability to direct cross --functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET accredited university or a Master's degree in Business Administration
  • Familiarity with Scout Motors business systems / procedures

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
