Job Description

The Cloud Technical Solutions Engineer, AI/ML role at Google involves troubleshooting technical problems for customers using a mix of debugging, networking, system administration, documentation updates, and coding/scripting. Responsibilities include working on production deployments to resolve issues, understanding Google Cloud's product technology and architectures, acting as a consultant for internal stakeholders, and collaborating with a global team for 24/7 customer support (including shift work and weekends). The role requires fluent communication in English and Mandarin Chinese. This position focuses on customer needs and drives the success of Google Cloud by understanding and advocating for customer issues.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years coding experience (Java, C++, Python, etc.) or system design
  • Linux/Unix or Windows systems experience
  • Experience in code debugging and virtualization
  • Fluent English and Mandarin communication
  • Troubleshooting & problem-solving skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with large-scale multi-node environments
  • Kernel debugging and performance analysis
  • Public cloud services experience
  • Computer networking knowledge (TCP/IP, Routing, Load balancing)
  • Understanding of web technologies (HTTP, HTML, DNS, TCP)

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience reading code in a general purpose coding language (e.g., Java, C, C++, Python, Shell, Go or JavaScript, etc.) or in system design.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix or Windows systems, from the kernel to the shell, file systems, and client-server protocols.
  • Experience in reading/debugging code and in virtualization and orchestration frameworks.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English and Mandarin (Chinese) to communicate with different regional customers and stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience debugging complex workload issues across large-scale multi-node environments.
  • Experience with exploratory kernel debugging and performance analysis of containerized systems.
  • Experience working with any public cloud services and infrastructure.
  • Experience in Computer Networking (e.g., TCP/IP, Routing, Load balancing, etc.).
  • Understanding of basic web technologies (e.g., HTTP, HTML, DNS, TCP, etc.).

Our Technical Solutions Engineers take initiative and own important customer issues in addition to providing support to our other support teams. You will be a part of a global team that provides 24x7 support to help customers seamlessly make the switch to Google Cloud. When customers cannot resolve issues themselves, your job is to ensure that we have the necessary tools and processes to swiftly resolve the issue.

In this role, you will troubleshoot technical problems for customers with a mix of debugging, networking, system administration, updating documentation, and when needed, coding/scripting. Our Technical Solutions team is focused on customer needs and you will help drive the success of Google Cloud by understanding and advocating for our customers’ issues.

You will be required to work in a Shift Pattern or non-standard work hours as required. This may include weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • Work with customers on their production deployments to resolve issues and achieve product readiness, availability, and scale.
  • Develop an understanding of Google Cloud's product technology and underlying architectures by troubleshooting, reproducing, and determine the root cause for customer-reported issues, building tools, and faster diagnosis.
  • Act as consultant and subject matter expert for internal stakeholders in engineering, business, and customer organizations to resolve technical deployment obstacles and improve Google Cloud.
  • Collaborate as part of a team of engineers/consultants that globally ensure 24-hour customer support. This will include a need to sometimes work non-standard work hours/shifts, and may include weekend work.
  • Understand customer issues, advocate for their needs with internal teams, including product and engineering teams, to find ways to improve the product, and drive production.
