IT Engineer- Data Protection
Position Summary
We are looking for a skilled and experienced IT Engineer to join our global IT Infrastructure team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in managing and advancing enterprise-level data protection services. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic perspective, deep technical knowledge, and a dedication to operational excellence, ensuring our data protection infrastructure meets the highest standards of security, efficiency, and compliance.
Responsibilities
Data Protection:
- Design, configure, and implement robust data protection solutions for diverse environments and data types.
- Lead technology integrations and migrations into existing data protection infrastructure.
- Oversee daily backup and recovery processes, ensuring all jobs are completed successfully.
- Regularly perform data restores to verify the integrity of backups.
- Implement backup strategies across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Monitor backup systems for errors, performance bottlenecks, and storage usage.
- Troubleshoot and resolve backup errors or failures in a timely manner.
- Provide root-cause analysis and implement long-term fixes for recurring issues.
- Optimize backup performance by fine-tuning windows, compression, deduplication, and network usage.
- Employ storage-efficient techniques to maximize backup capacity.
- Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory data retention policies.
- Generate and share backup status, performance, and capacity reports with stakeholders.
- Guarantee that all critical data is protected in accordance with SLAs.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery (DR) strategies, including offsite cloud replication.
- Perform regular DR testing and manage recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO).
- Automate backup processes and monitoring tasks through scripts and orchestration tools.
- Integrate with automation platforms like PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting languages.
- Monitor and plan for future storage needs to ensure scalability.
- Assist in procuring and deploying additional backup infrastructure as required.
- Drive automation initiatives to improve the efficiency and reliability of enterprise data protection.
Service-Level Troubleshooting
- Provide expert troubleshooting and resolution for complex technical issues, especially in high-stakes environments.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to ensure service continuity and quick incident resolution, working with vendors as needed.
Compliance & Change Management
- Ensure all infrastructure operations adhere to relevant industry standards (SOX, HIPAA, FDA) and internal regulations.
- Implement and enforce change management processes to maintain system integrity and security.
Collaboration & Mentorship
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive successful project completion.
- Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all managed services.
- Develop knowledge-sharing strategies to empower the team and enhance service delivery.
Requirements
- Extensive experience managing enterprise IT data protection infrastructure, primarily Rubrik CDM, NASCD, BMR products, and other data protection technologies. NetBackup, Avamar and Cloud platform knowledge (AWS or Azure) is a plus.
- Strong expertise in disaster recovery and business continuity planning, with experience in executing DR plans for infrastructure resilience.
- Understanding of IT concepts and networking, security protocols, server virtualization, system administration, DNS, DHCP, IP addressing, LAN/WAN, SDWAN, network routing, load balancing, and firewall management.
- Advanced proficiency in scripting and automation with tools like PowerShell, Shell, and Python.
- Experience managing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring SLAs are met.
- Expertise in creating detailed technical documentation and reports, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and continuous integration environments.
- Proven experience working in highly regulated environments, with a deep understanding of compliance standards like SOX, HIPAA, and FDA.
- Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, take initiative, and drive innovation.
- Experience managing data center environments, including hardware installation, cabling, power, cooling systems, and maintenance for optimal performance and uptime.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to collaborate with global teams and present technical concepts effectively.
- Proficiency in deploying and managing infrastructure monitoring tools such as Grafana to ensure system health and performance.
- Experience using IT service management tools like ServiceNow in ITIL-aligned organizations.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, including risk assessments and compliance with security standards.
- Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation as part of a follow-the-sun support model for global incident response.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3-6 years of experience in data protection, with a bachelor’s degree.
- Ability to align IT strategies with business goals and communicate the impact of technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven track record of working effectively in global teams and adapting to different corporate environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 tools for documentation, reporting, and presentations.
