The Legal Department seeks a junior lawyer as Commercial Counsel to support transactions across EA's central technology, marketing teams, and corporate functions. This role involves drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, creating contract templates, interpreting agreement language, and advising on contractual risk. Collaboration with other legal professionals, senior management, and third-party companies is essential. The candidate will work in a hybrid work schedule, spending at least three days in the Burnaby, British Columbia office. The candidate will be a “utility player” in a fast-paced collaborative environment and will support transactions across EA’s central technology and marketing teams and the corporate functions.

Must have:

Member of a Canadian Law Society
Common law experience
3+ years of experience in law or in-house tech industry experience
Experience drafting commercial agreements
Ability to manage the entire contract process

Job Details

Our Legal Department is looking for a junior lawyer to join us as Commercial Counsel. You are a “utility player” who will support transactions across EA’s central technology and marketing teams and the corporate functions Electronic Arts. You excel in a swift moving, collaborative environment and want to grow as a lawyer. As part of our global Legal team, you will help create company policies and commercial playbook content. You will report to the Managing Commercial Counsel, and you will work a hybrid work schedule, defined as 3+ days in office from our Burnaby (BC) office.

Responsibilities:

Draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including software and content licenses, consulting and other services agreements, SaaS and other cloud agreements, hardware purchase agreements, and other agreements.
Help create contract templates and guidance documents for EA’s commercial playbook, review and comment on drafts of company policies, and contribute to other projects
Interpret agreement language and company policies for business partners; advise on their obligations; evaluate and advise on contractual risk and its mitigation.
Work with other EA attorneys and legal professionals, senior management, and representatives of third-party companies.
Convey complex information to diverse audiences orally and in written format.

Qualifications:

Member in good standing of a Canadian Law Society
Common law experience
3 or more years of experience with a law firm providing services for technology clients or relevant in-house experience with companies in the technology industry
Experience drafting and negotiating different types of commercial agreements.
Able to manage the entire contract process from initial contact to execution.
