Job Description

The Editorial and Data Ops Assistant role at BlueBolt VFX involves working on films and TV shows. Responsibilities include monitoring and controlling the rendering process, managing the render farm, and handling data transfer requests. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, a team player, and able to learn new software quickly. They will need to provide render support, maintain file structure, identify and resolve technical errors, and work with other departments to keep production on schedule. Other tasks involve managing data transfers, renaming files, preparing files for delivery, and providing editorial support. BlueBolt is an award-winning visual effects company specializing in compositing, computer graphics, and digital matte painting.

  • Experience in scripting
  • Basic understanding of Maya and Nuke
  • Familiarity with Linux systems
  • Experience with FTP, SFTP and other peer-to-peer transfer platforms
  • Familiarity with Tape archive systems

Job Details

Here at BlueBolt VFX, we are currently looking for an Editorial and Data Ops Assistant to join our team. You will be in the thick of all the action, working on amazing films as well as award winning TV shows. This role will give you the opportunity to develop and gain skills to further your career in this industry.

This role will require you to be highly organised and have the ability to monitor and control the rendering process, manage the render farm and fulfil and supervise data transfer requests.  

We require a responsible and self-motivated person to help control the flow of data in and out of BlueBolt and adhere to strict security data policies.

Skills:

  • The ideal candidate will be a team player who strives to maximise team/department performance
  • High degree of computer literacy
  • Ability to learn new software quickly, and learn on the job if necessary
  • Ability to manage and prioritise time and workload
  • Ability to record information accurately and produce reports
  • Experience in scripting is desirable but not essential
  • Must be familiar with Deadline render farm gui
  • Must be familiar with VNC and Remote Desktop services
  • Basic understanding of Maya and Nuke is an advantage
  • Familiarity with linux systems is an advantage
  • Experience with FTP, SFTP. Basic understanding of Aspera, Signiant and other peer to peer transfer platforms is a plus
  • Familiarity with Tape archive  systems is an advantage.

This role will require you to:

  • Provide render support to artists’ rendering of all shots in a production
  • Assist, or maintain file structure generally set out by production / pipeline
  • Identify, report, and find solutions to technical rendering and composition errors
  • Work closely with all other departments to keep the production on schedule
  • Identify potential issues and participate in problem solving/tool building activities
  • Perform and manage data transfers using industry standard systems and protocols
  • Rename files to conform to company standards
  • Coordinate with Production Coordinators to ensure files are correctly placed
  • Receive physical media to/from client and partner studios, load contents on to servers
  • Take inventory of physical media (cd, DVD, hard drives) for sending to clients and partner studios
  • Prepare files for delivery to clients (conforming to client delivery specifications)
  • LTO archive - manage Presstore library
  • Prepare daily shot review sessions
  • Run overflow daily shot review sessions
  • Provide editorial support; converting footage, updating and managing the cut
  • Check shots match the cut as per productions requirements, colour, frame range, scan etc.
  • Manage the editorial file system.
