Job Description

The Engineering Manager, Engineering Productivity, Core at Google leads a charter of large-scale technology solutions within the HR Engineering organization, supporting a Digital First transformation. This role involves implementing and supporting scalable data and integration capabilities with various platforms, making trade-off decisions balancing immediate needs and long-term infrastructure health. Responsibilities include developing project roadmaps, setting team goals and priorities, coordinating resources, and providing technical leadership. The manager maintains high development practices, guides engineers in designing robust systems, and addresses critical reliability challenges while fostering career growth. The role focuses on improving development velocity, code quality, and code health within Google's Core team, which builds the foundational technical infrastructure for Google's products.

Must have:

5+ years software development experience (Python, C++, Java, JavaScript)
1.5+ years leadership experience (technical or people management)
1+ year experience building tools to improve development velocity
Experience with large-scale data and integrations
Agile experience and project roadmap development

Good to have:

Experience integrating with HR, data, and large-scale pipelines
Experience with large-scale distributed systems
Understanding of SOAP, RESTful APIs, and microservices
Proficiency in Java, Python, Go, and CI/CD tools

Minimum qualifications:

5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
1.5 years of experience in a leadership role (e.g., technical leadership or people management, supervision, or team leadership).
1 year of experience building tools that improve development velocity, code quality, or code health.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience integrating with HR, data, and large-scale integrations pipelines.
Experience working on Agile teams, using agile tracking, and process management tools.
Experience working with large-scale distributed systems.
Understanding of SOAP, RESTful APIs, and microservices architecture.
Proficient in one or more scripting and programming languages (Java, Python, Go) and CI/CD build tools.

Responsibilities

Implement and support highly scalable data and integrations capability with first-party, second-party, and third-party platform teams. Navigate without significant assistance needed from senior leadership, collaborating readily with peers and stakeholders.
Make trade off decisions while balancing the immediate needs and long-term health of Infra and Data analytics group.
Develop project roadmaps, establish team goals, set priorities, coordinate resources, and provide technical leadership, directly or in tandem with TLs, across a broader set of HR Engineering Platforms.
Maintain the highest levels of development practices including: technical design, development, systems configuration, test documentation/execution, issue identification and resolution, writing clean, modular and self-sustaining code.
Guide the engineers in the greater ecosystem to design resilient, predictable, and robust systems. Apply expertise to critical reliability challenges within the domain while growing their career.
