What You'll Do
Epic Games is searching for an experienced FX Outsourcing Lead to support and supervise creative content provided by outsourced partners. Reporting to the individual art lead(s) and working with the Outsource Manager, the Outsource Lead will provide front-line creative feedback for work submitted to Epic for review. Though the role will be mainly supervisory, the individual should be an experienced artist; having worked in game studio pipelines before, with a solid hands-on art background demonstrated by their portfolio. The ideal candidate would be a talented artist who demonstrates concise, clear communication skills and is able to execute a variety of daily tasks, including; documenting existing pipelines, collecting and/or creating a quality bar and technical example assets, collecting photo references, creating asset block-outs, creating simple block out paintovers, and finally, packaging all files to send off to the external outsourced partners.
In this role, you will
- Work closely with the individual Epic Art Leads, Outsource Manager(s), and other artists on the team to ensure assets have all the information they need before being sent out to outsourced partners
- Collect or generate detailed documentation, video references, and examples of art asset production, procedures, and engine requirements to support outsourced partners
- If required, make any needed fixes to assets received from external partners to ensure they're consistent and 'technically' game-ready
- Clearly communicate feedback to outsourced partners, and ensure all feedback is implemented successfully
- Communicate with high-level Epic leadership in the event that goals are not being reached
- Partner with internal Art staff to ensure assets received from outsource partners are ingested into the pipeline and engine correctly
- When necessary, execute hands-on art production, deliver assets to external partners, provide bug support and triage, and facilitate any final polish on art assets that have been received by the outsourcing team
What we're looking for
- Experience with shipping and optimizing AAA titles across multiple platforms, or other large-scale creative projects across film and tv
- Experience in game art asset creation across a variety of software packages including; Houdini, Maya, 3ds Max, Photoshop, Substance, etc
- Must be a clear and concise communicator who is able to deliver complex, creative feedback to external vendors and is very comfortable with speaking to high-level leadership
- Must be highly organized, self-driven, customer-focused, comfortable working in a high-pressure production environment, and a great team player
- As an Outsourcing Lead, fluency in a language other than English is a plus. Primarily Chinese, German, Spanish, Italian, or Russian
