Job Details
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
- 1 year of experience working in a networking technical environment, or an advanced degree.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience in representing stakeholders during executive-level planning and prioritization exercises.
- Knowledge and experience as a Product Designer of network racks.
- Excellent communication and multi-tasking skills in an environment of shifting priorities.
- Excellent consensus-driven leadership skills to define strategy, drive execution, and resolve conflicts.

Google’s Cloud Supply Chain and Operations (CSCO) team is seeking a Hardware Design Engineer to enable Design for Operations (Mechanical Design) for the next generation of platforms. The main responsibility is to own strategy and drive execution across a portfolio of projects, ranging from network switches to machine learning pods. The goal is to reduce time and cost for platform deployment, maintenance, and repairs.
In order to achieve the goal, as the Hardware Design Engineer you will interface with stakeholders from data center, manufacturing, and product design to crystallize design for operations requirements. You will influence new platform architectures through technical insights, design changes, and trade off analyses.

Responsibilities
- Identify serviceability risks of the rack design to enable rapid deployment and minimize downtime during repairs.
- Mitigate the serviceability risks through collaboration with partners in design, manufacturing, and data center.
- Crystallize the tradeoffs between design and serviceability to enable decisions, from the engineer level to the executive level.
- Oversee the validation and tactical execution of the mechanical design requirements, from ideation to ramp.
- Align stakeholders across competing vectors through clear communication of updates, escalations, and achievements.
