Job Description

ForthStar is looking for a passionate 3D Artist to create high-quality 3D content like environments and props to ensure an engaging gameplay experience. Responsibilities include innovating to enhance game visuals, collaborating with designers and developers, sketching concept designs, building 3D models, adding lighting and shading effects, integrating special effects, implementing and optimizing graphics in Unity for mobile, and researching references to produce game assets. The role requires collaboration, constructive feedback, meeting deadlines, and ensuring visual consistency. Must have:
  • Strong portfolio showcasing art styles and techniques.
  • Expertise with 3DS Max, Maya, Blender, Photoshop, and Substance Painter.
  • Ability to quickly create prototypes.
  • Expertise in modelling, texturing, and material skills.
  • High-poly 3D sculpting and low-poly optimized modeling.
  • Solid understanding of lighting principles and perspectives.
  • Knowledge of shader development, lighting, and rendering in Unity.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in giving and receiving feedback.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Outstanding artistic skills and attention to detail.
Good to have:
  • Passion for games and understanding of what makes them fun.
  • Proficiency with Unity.
  • Experience in mobile game development.
  • Experience working on competitive, PvP games.
  • Ability to rig characters, produce, and implement animation.
  • 2D concept art skills.

About the role

We are looking for a passionate 3D Artist to join our dynamic, highly accomplished team. As a key contributor, you will be responsible for creating and developing high-quality 3D content, including environments, props and other visual elements to ensure a highly captivating gameplay experience. 

You should possess a versatile skill set with proficiency across various art disciplines, enabling you to impact multiple aspects of visual development. Your ability to adapt and solve problems creatively is essential.

Working within directional guidelines, you will need to quickly understand and translate requirements into stunning game assets that elevate gameplay. Our collaborative, fast-paced work environment requires a willingness to offer and accept constructive feedback and to revisit and iterate on your work as needed. You must be committed to meeting production deadlines while ensuring excellence and visual consistency in your work.

Responsibilities

  • Innovate to enhance game visuals and keep the visual style consistent across all assets.
  • Collaborate with designers and developers to define the style and feel of the game.
  • Sketch concept designs and key elements of the visual style.
  • Build 3D models of assets within the technical constraints of the game engine.
  • Add lighting and shading effects to all elements.
  • Integrate special effects into textures, scenes and events.
  • Implement and optimise graphics in Unity for mobile.
  • Research references and resources to produce game assets.

Essential skills 

  • Strong portfolio showcasing diverse art styles and techniques.
  • Expertise with industry-standard software, such as 3DS Max, Maya, Blender, Photoshop, and Substance Painter (3DS Max is preferred).
  • Ability to quickly create prototypes.
  • Expertise in modelling, texturing, and material skills for creating environments, characters and props. 
  • Capable of high-poly 3D sculpting and low-poly optimised modelling for mobile projects.
  • Solid understanding of lighting principles and perspectives. 
  • Knowledge of shader development, lighting and rendering in Unity is preferred.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in giving and receiving feedback.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Outstanding artistic skills and attention to detail.

Desirable skills 

  • Passion for games and a deep understanding of what makes them fun and highly engaging.
  • Proficiency with Unity.
  • Experience in mobile game development.
  • Experience working on competitive, PvP games.
  • Ability to rig characters, produce and implement animation.
