Our Responsible AI team is dedicated to building a technology center to provide technical support for all ByteDance products from the perspective of making AI models responsible, trustworthy, and aligned with human values. We are looking for research scientist interns who have solid technical skills while passionate about pursuing excellence in responsible AI and related areas.

Internships at ByteDance aim to provide students with hands-on experience in developing fundamental skills and exploring potential career paths. It runs for 12-24 weeks and begins in May/June 2025 or August/September 2025. Successful candidates must be able to commit to one of the following start dates below:

Responsibilities:
- Research and development of technologies on responsible AI, particularly with a focus on large language models, including but not limited to safety, reasoning, alignment, privacy, robustness;
- Perform research on responsible AI and collaborate with experts from both academia and industry;
- Design and perform theoretical analysis of AI algorithms.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Researchers or PhD students in Machine Learning and other related fields;
- In-depth understanding of machine learning with rich experiences in relevant fields;
- Background in large language models, especially post-training or alignment, is preferable;
- Familiar with at least one popular machine learning framework (e.g., Pytorch, TensorFlow, JAX etc);
- Good at communications and prioritizing teamwork;
- Solid mathematical background and coding ability;
- Publication at the top conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, FAccT, AAAI, CVPR, ICCV, ACL, WWW etc) is a big plus;
- Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description Intern (hourly)The hourly rate range for this position in the selected city is $75- $75. We cover 100% premium coverage for Full-Time intern medical insurance after 90 days from the date of hire. Medical coverage only, no dental or vision coverage.
Our time off and leave plans are: Paid holidays and paid sick leave. The sick leave entitlement is based on the time you join.
