Job Description

As a Senior 3D Artist at Lightspeed Studios, you'll collaborate with designers, tech artists, and engineers to create game assets and environments. Responsibilities include prototyping gameplay spaces, developing high-quality reference assets, optimizing assets for game performance, participating in playtesting, and providing constructive feedback. You'll contribute to the visual direction of new IPs, ensuring a visually stunning and immersive gaming experience. The role demands strong artistic foundations (lighting, composition, color theory) and technical proficiency (poly counts, LODs, texture budgets). Leadership skills and excellent communication are also crucial.

What the Role Entails

As a Senior 3D Artist, you’ll bring all your tools, talent, and skills to bear as to help us dream up and build out our worlds. You will work hand in hand with Art Directors, Designers, and tech artists to not only help prototype play spaces and gameplay but also to help us develop the look of our new IP.

What you’ll get to do: 

  • Collaborate with game designers to generate prototype asset sets for gameplay discovery.

  • Create high-quality reference or “gold standard” assets that illustrate visual targets.

  • Partner with tech artists and engineers to keep asset creation optimized and game-ready.

  • Participate in regular internal playtesting and help drive discussion around challenges and opportunities.

Who We Look For

  • Extensive experience (7+ years) as an environment artist, hard surface artist, and/or props artist.

  • Expert Knowledge: Proficiency in tools such as Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, and familiarity with common game engines (e.g., Unreal, Unity, or proprietary)

  • Strong Artistic Foundations: Deep understanding of lighting, composition, color theory, and architectural design.

  • Technical Proficiency: Experienced with performance considerations like poly counts, LODs, and texture memory budgets.

  • Leadership & Mentorship: Ability to guide teams, provide constructive feedback, and inspire continuous growth in others.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: Capable of presenting ideas clearly and collaborating across departments and disciplines.

  • Passion for World-Building: You love creating immersive worlds that pull players in and enhance the overall gameplay experience.

  • A Genuine Love for Video Games: You bring a gamers passion to the art you create.

Pluses:  

  • Significant experience with Unreal or Unity engine. 

  • Can express a history building high quality assets across wide range asset types.

  • Experience building outsourcing relationships and pipelines.

  • Can showcase level layouts, level design, or other worldbuilding skillsets.

The base pay range for this position in the state(s) above is $89,640.0 to $186,840.0 per year. Actual pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign on payment, relocation package, and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, as well as other medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the specific position offered.
