Data Engineer – Application Development
This position is responsible for development and operational support on business databases. Creation of SSIS packages as well as SSRS reports for various clients, both internal and external. This may include data transfers, data integrity, application support and reporting. Lead cross-training efforts within team to assure proper coverage. We will expect you to:
- Review, analyze, and modify SQL programs, applications and extract transform load processes including encoding, testing, debugging and documenting.
- Write SQL programs or scripts as required for small to large scale data updates.
- Implement data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes. Assist in the resolution of database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues.
- Consult with ICAT personnel to determine business and functional requirements and identify solutions to resolve those needs.
- Write and maintain functional and technical specifications.
- Provide technical support to database applications including, data conversion and data integration supporting back-end insurance processes such as claims, billing, policy printing, inspections, and reporting.
- Gather requirements and convert to SSRS reports both adhoc and scheduled.
- Create scripts and ETL processes for data integration, data maintenance or bug fixes. - Create new prototype applications to refine requirements.
- Analyze, define and document system requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, interfaces with other systems, auditing, reporting requirements and production configuration.
- Analyze code for problem resolution and performance optimization.
- Provide technical consulting and respond to error reports, problems or questions.
- Lead and promote a team environment, identify best practices and collaborate to implement across various systems.
- Participate in QA and Production release teams.
- Cross-train team. Work with manager to designate primary/backup for each function.
- Write SQL code as required to support business operations, reporting and database management.
- Assist Business Information Systems team as needed with functions including- General Administration, Document Issuance, Application Support, Reporting, Support other departments with their database server environment and architecture.
- Assist with ad-hoc requests.
- Maintain knowledge of and support ICAT’s company values and strategic plan

What you need to have Experience in:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field and 2-5 Years in industry experience OR 5-7 Years Industry experience without a 4 year degree.
- At least eight years of experience with relational databases and writing/maintaining SQL code, preferably Microsoft SQL Server. Primary focus on complex SQL in PL-SQL or Transact-SQL. SSIS/SSRS experience required.
- At least six years of experience in a production environment with responsibility for the timely production of business processes and output.
- At least six years of experience using a change management system such as VSS, StarTeam or Perforce.
- At least three-year experience with structured programming techniques and formal application development processes.
- P&C Insurance knowledge, ISO Statutory and/or State DOI reporting experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively address issues, streamlining processes where possible.
- Demonstrated ability to develop formal application specifications and project plans using common documentation tools such as Visio, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Project.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot stored procedures by reviewing code, isolating any issues, suggest corrections and/ or enhancements using proper change control methodologies.
