Job Description

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Assystem, you will be responsible for leading and executing mechanical engineering activities on Defence infrastructure projects. Your role will involve defining project requirements, coordinating engineering support, ensuring compliance with standards, supervising contractors, and managing commissioning and decommissioning processes. This position requires strong experience in mechanical engineering, particularly in designing and substantiating mechanical plant and equipment, as well as familiarity with UK statutory legislation and British Standards. You will also be responsible for conducting site surveys, authoring technical documentation, and reviewing contractor documentation.
Must have:
  • Wide-ranging knowledge and experience in mechanical engineering
  • Design and substantiation of mechanical plant and equipment
  • Familiarity with UK statutory legislation such as PED, CDM, and the Machinery Directive
  • Knowledge of British Standards and current UK nuclear regulations
  • Experience across concept/detailed design, manufacturing, and construction stages in highly regulated industries
  • Conducting site surveys and project engineering
  • Authoring technical documentation and reviewing contractor documentation

Job Description

Your Role:

Looking for a new challenge?! Join our growing Engineering team to undertake  Defence infrastructure projects.  Based 3 days a week in our Glasgow offices you will:

🔹 Define project requirements and stakeholder needs.

🔹 Coordinate engineering support across the supply chain.

🔹 Ensure compliance with organisational standards during design and construction.

🔹 Supervise contractors' technical work and construction activities.

🔹 Direct commissioning/decommissioning processes and maintain stakeholder communication.

🔹 Uphold Environment, Health, Safety, Security, and Quality standards. 

Qualifications

Profile:

Attributes for success: 

Essential:

🔧 Wide-ranging knowledge and experience in mechanical engineering.

🏭 Design and substantiation of mechanical plant and equipment.

📜 Familiarity with UK statutory legislation such as PED, CDM, and the Machinery Directive. 📚 Knowledge of British Standards and current UK nuclear regulations.

🔍 Experience across concept/detailed design, manufacturing, and construction stages in highly regulated industries.

🔍 Conducting site surveys and project engineering.

📝 Authoring technical documentation and reviewing contractor documentation.

🔹 Security clearance required; Sole UK national or ability to gain security clearance.

Desirable:

🏗️ Construction management experience.

🚀 Commissioning experience.
