This Senior Software Engineer role within Microsoft's Search, Assistant, and Intelligence (MSAI) team focuses on enhancing the security and data personalization features of Microsoft 365 Copilot. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and delivering mission-critical improvements to Copilot's integration with data retrieval, classification, and identity systems. The role involves leading the development of data protection patterns at scale, analyzing telemetry data for capacity planning and continuous improvement, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet user and business requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in building large-scale services, cloud technologies (Azure preferred), and a solid understanding of AI principles. Experience with LLM model integration into real-world applications is a plus.
Must have:
  • 4+ years experience in designing, building, and managing large-scale services
  • 4+ years experience with cloud services (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Experience in coding (C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python)
  • Data security and personalization expertise
  • Collaboration and leadership skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence
  • Master's degree in Computer Science

We are looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer - MSAI to help drive improvements to the copilot for M365 services to increase the security features to help customers define their data access across scenarios and foundations on data personalization that enable meaningful human-AI partnerships.


Joining the MSAI team for Copilot engineering is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and make a real impact on the way people work and communicate. As a Senior Software Engineer in the copilot for M365 team, you will get an amazing opportunity to demonstrate leadership at both a technical and business level to build solutions that help people be more productive and efficient. You will get to extend your knowledge of integrating LLM models into real life AI applications.


You design, implement and deliver mission critical improvements to the M365 copilot to integrate with data retrieval, classification and identity systems across Microsoft. You will lead the team to build data protection patterns at scale to help customers be more efficient and productive with copilot for M365. You will also analyze telemetry data to develop capacity planning models, identify patterns and trends that drive continuous improvement, and highlight opportunities to deploy automation to monitor and manage data personalization and access across sites.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years experience in designing, building, and managing available and distributed large-scale services.
  • 4+ years experience with cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, GCP, or others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence is a plus.
  • 4+ years experience building software and complex services.

 

 

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and implement software solutions to impelement data security patterns and features to personalize search responses to improve quality and releavance for requests across the Copilot platform for M365.
  • Collaborate across multiple services, organizations in M365, Microsoft Search, Assistant and Intelligence, and Microsoft Security products to ensure services adhere to known security boundaries with deployed policies and automation.
  • Collaborates with cross functional stakeholders to convert user or business requirements to tech specifications and drive the project through to launch.
  • Adopts, improves and enforces best practices for code reviews, unit testing, and integration testing to ensure high code quality and system reliability within the team.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing the playbooks, working on call to monitor, mitigate, rootcause and fix systems and service for regressions, or interruptions. As a DRI, reproduce, debug and fix customer-reported problems.
